It even makes the model look “thick.” I figure that if clothing looks dreadful on the tall, thin creature that models it, there’s not much hope for me.

I’m NOT clicking on the great glam ad that keeps coming up on this thread. A well endowed young lady wearing a revealing black shrug with nothing under it. Definitely not MOB wear!

It might be fun to have a thread where we share truly awful fashion pics !

I really think the MOB should enjoy the moment and dress to celebrate and be comfortable - whatever that might mean. My friend’s daughter’s lovely wedding last summer had both the MOB and MOG wearing floor length gowns. It was a dinner reception. At first, I was a little taken aback but honestly they both looked so lovely and it really seemed to honor the occasion by going full length. Remember, if there’s dancing you will be on stage a bit and the long gowns were very charming.

Article in the WSJ today about Tabolts trying to change its image. Seems the last survey showed that 65 year olds thought they were too young for Talbots. LOL.

I have bought a couple of small things there over the years. My MIL LOVES to go so I bring her there every now and then. She’s 94

They did end by saying that Michelle is wearing some of their stuff including a black and white blouse. Really, their stuff is not that bad…just boring I’d say.

I’ve had good luck picking and choosing from Talbots, particularly their sweaters. The quality is pretty good, and if you pair something from them with trendier pieces, it can look quite nice. But then, I’m not an adventurous dresser!

I have a cotton shirt I bought from Talbots at least 7 or 8 years ago that is still one of my favorites. OTOH, haven’t found much there lately. Expensive for one thing, and I find that their cotton knit shirts are usually too wide/too short.

In fact, the whole ‘too short’ trend in tops (sleeve and body length) is one of my all-time pet peeves. I’m not particularly tall - only about 5’8" - but do have long arms. Other than Eddie Bauer and Gap, few places still carry womens tall sizes.

My other peeve is the new sheer, lightweight “slub” fabric that Gap, Old Navy and even Eddie Bauer are using. I like lightweight summer clothes, but lately all the tees (and even a buttondown) I’ve tried seem see-through, thin, and cheap. The last thing I want is to have to wear a tank or camisole under a summer tee shirt. Bleh.

BTW, anyone want to win a $175 gift certificate for a nice shirt? Not to be CRASS or anything, but I have a giveaway on my blog and you are all invited. Click my name to see the URL. Now, if I can just find someone to do an MOB giveaway…I bet I can. Let’s see.

Exactly! I hated it when they started with the teen girls’ clothing, but now they’re doing it to ours too! I’d pay $5 more for everything if the fabric was not so thin! All I can assume is they’re trying to save $$?? Yikes.

After they get rid of thin fabric, please take out most of the lycra/spandex material. If I wanted to appear in public in Spanx, I would! Clothes that conform to the body are nice; clothes that suffocate me are not!

Capris in WA, not really hot enough for shorts or sun dresses very often! PLus I think Bermudas work for women with skinny not muscular thighs ;)

I prefer slacks or skorts. I really feel that capris and bermudas are not very flattering on most folks–somehow it seems the wearer couldn’t decide whether to wear shorts or slacks, but that’s just me. If it’s really hot, walking shorts or a skirt are also a nice choice, to me.

I happen to like Bermudas - long ones that end just above or at the knee - so maybe those are technically “walking shorts”. Not a huge fan of capris although I own one pair. I’m very tall so it is difficult to find capris that aren’t too short. I think capris are one of those things that can look nice, but don’t on many people.

Capris look dowdy most of the time because they usually hit at the widest part of the calf - not flattering on anyone. My daughter says that they scream “middle aged mom.” A cropped pant that hits at the ankle bone or just above is much more flattering. The shorter pant does show off a pretty pair of sandals well.

Bermudas that end just above or at the top of the knee are another good choice for those with reasonably trim thighs.
