Trying to decide between Drexel and University of Delaware for Mechanical Engineering. Any feedback on either? How’s the course load, advising, tutoring, job placement after?
Thank you!
Can’t speak to advising (if you can follow the course sequence, you don’t really need it) or services like tutoring.
It’s engineering -you need ABET (both are) and the course load is going to be tough - because it’s engineering.
Here are career outcomes - For, UDel, I set to MechE but if it doesn’t open to it you can re set it.
In 2022, they show a $73K median - I don’t know if that’s base or includes sign on, etc.
Drexel, of course, focuses on co op. Drexel doesn’t show a by major report - just overall - but you can ask.
I’m sure both will be fine - but one is urban and has co ops. One is a large flagship.
Assuming costs are ok at both - which is best for you?
Good luck

Having worked in the industry for 25+ years (a Mech Engr graduate myself from another major university), engineering degrees from certain schools are far more desirable than others. UDel doesn’t have the reputation that other schools in area have such as Penn State, Drexel etc.
Not to say anything bad about UDel, but it’s just not the same as other universities with a much longer tenure of being renowned, respected schools.
Go Hokies
That really depends on which field of engineering you’re referring to. For chemical engineering, as an example, UDel is one of the top programs in the country. I believe they are pretty good at mech engineering as well
@rajreena1, I suggest you do more research into career outcomes, student support as well as look at other factors. For example, does your kid want a big city environment, or a college town? What about co-ops? Etc.
Are they both affordable without parental loans?
Are you interested in co-op (more practical application, opportunity to test out professions) or not (more disjointed college career, friends all over the place)?
Do you want a larger campus with a variety of majors and a cute walkable town nearby, or a smaller campus in a huge city?
Do the co-ops at Drexel take it from 4 years to 5? Coujd be a consideration.
