Driver - Quick Question Re Hotel D.C.

Driver, a long time ago you posted about recommended for a hotel in Washington - my regular place is full for part of next week, would you mind reposting the information? I cannot find the original thread anywhere and there are too many posts to sort through…

This is where I have been staying for the last five or so years. I like it a lot. They like my dog, too.

Edit: Weenie–YES!! Thank you!! I used to go to the Harrington all the time when the kids were little, it’s great for that situation. Parents can have a private room with an adjoining “dorm” room for multiple kids. I’d forgotten the name in my advanced age, and people are always asking. Hotel Harrington was a blast with little ones! Can’t believe I forgot it. Must take more vitamins. http://www.hotel-harrington.com/</a>
I love both of these hotels. Hotel Wash is swanker, though.

Here’s a good tip for searching:

In the Advanced Search you can put in both the poster’s name AND a key word. Click the box for “posts” rather than “threads.”

That way, if you only remember that so-and-so talked about something, it just might bring up the right post.

Thanks very much Weenie and Driver, I really appreciate it. I made a last minute change, was scheduled to fly out this morning but instead moved my whole trip into next week. I usually stay at the University Club = reciprocity from the Miami City Club, but, they’re sold out half the week, and I was unable to convince them to come up with something.

The Hotel Washington is sold out as well, but the Harrington has availability, so, I just made reservations for $135/night, which is $100/night less than what I pay for the University Club - $235 for the executive level single. Harrington also has rooms for $99/night, which is amazing, but, the reservations section notes that they do not guarantee non-smoking for the $99/night rooms. No matter though as I’m thrilled to save $100 x most of the nights next week. Plus it looks like the Metro is two blocks away, so that works perfectly…

Great! Do take a walk over to the Washington and have a drink on the roof, though. Best view in town.

Hotel Washington was a good value. Don’t miss the rooftop terrace for grabbing a morning cup of coffee or breakfast…seeing the glow of the rising sun on the public buildings is just so majestic. Thanks to Driver for that rec. (I’ll even deduct 10 ITY’s from her future debt.)

Also, the Washington Suites in Georgetown (not the same as the Georgetown Suites) is a great value for family traveling together.

We stayed at the Washington Suites in April, and thought it a bit pricey, since you have to pay to park the car, etc. Nevertheless, the location cannot be beat…we loved being able to walk to everything.

We stayed at the Doubletree Guest Suites in Foggy Bottom a couple of weeks ago and had a great suite with a full kitchen; nice location and friendly staff. We paid $149 but no idea what it might be now.

I love the Tabard Inn at Dupont Circle: www.tabardinn.com If you have a group/famly, the penthouse suite is a hoot! Great food and European feel, but it’s not for everyone.

I’ve eaten there (Tabard)and liked it a lot. The decor is decidedly overstuffed, maybe not for little kids…it feels a lot like Great Aunt Adeline’s house. But the food is great, and my aunt, who also has lots of business in DC, always stays there. Will have to ask about the penthouse, though!

One of my dinner appointments called to reschedule; we were supposed to eat at the same Greek place in Bethesda where we always go because it’s near her house, but, now she’s decided we’re having hamburgers at the Harrington since I’m staying there. I really really hope they taste good - she claims they’re excellent, we’ll see! (I’m not too crazy about the Greek place, so her opinion is somewhat questionable.)

Too funny! One of the things I remember about the Harrington was their old-fashioned hotel restaurant/diner. Honestly, the whole place was like a throw-back to childhood…it felt very 60s–in a very good way. If you want ersatz 60s, you can walk half a block to Planet Hollywood…if you want the real deal, just eat at the Harrington for half the price! It’s not fancy, but it’s clean, comfortable, friendly, and REAL. I think you’ll like it.

Didn’t the Harrington call their restaurant the Kitchiteria?

Pre-Verizon Center Tony Chang’s is good, or the yup-scale Irish pub with the furnishings imported from the old country.
