^^yeah. its just my driving skills aint that great lol…but when u can make ur own class schedule right? whats the earliest and latest classes start??

btw-regarding housing-can u make special requests like based on religon? (im muslim and i prefer to dorm with muslim-not that i mind, but for the sake of my parents…i heard they have like a muslim society there…and i know other schools have like housing with same groups, etc.

im trying to think of a way that would help my case for being at school and not drive everyday (gas prices man x b

I’m muslim too but I never made a special request (I’m not sure if you can?). Personally, I think it would be easier to dorm with other muslims because of having to wake up early for prayer, etc.

Contact the MSA (Muslim Student Association) and they might be able to help you get connected with other Muslim students who want to dorm together. In general it shouldn’t be too hard if you’re a girl, from what I can tell. Though this will mean that you will be sharing an apartment off-campus. I don’t think UCLA housing will help you out here, but its worth a try… give them a call or something.
The Vanpool’s are probably a good idea if you will be commuting… though a month’s pass will be something like ~$300+ I think, depending on where you live.
I think your best bet is probably to convince your family to let you live on campus… lots of Muslims do it, its not so bad. Maybe you can dorm with someone from your school who is also Muslim, and possibly request a double in that case? Also, its only the first year thats so uncertain… but if you live on campus you’ll be able to make friends much more easily. Then you can just dorm with someone with the same religious (or otherwise) preferences as yourself the next year.

It seems to surprise people that living in an off campus apartment with 2 per small room or 3 per large room is much cheaper than living in the dorms. UCLA dorms next year are about $13,500 for nine months. People can easily live within walking distance of campus for about $11,000 per year, and that includes eating at a restaurant every day.
