<p>Is it better to drive through Canada or to take I-90 through Cleveland in the winter? I know what to expect on I-90. What are the roads like in Canada when there may be snow?</p>
<p>It’s probably slightly better to drive through Canada unless you are expecting border delays.</p>
<p>We’ve driven from Detroit to Ithaca both ways. Takes about 9 hours via Cleveland. We’ve done it as fast as 7 hours through Canada. Even with some delays at border crossings, it is still faster through Canada. We haven’t done it in the winter though. Hope this helps.</p>
<p>Definitely go through Canada! The snow belt around the southeastern shore of Lake Erie is always smart to avoid in the winter. Also it is a shorter distance between the two areas and typically faster, even with potential border delays. The major highways in Canada are well taken care of in the winter. Remember though that you will need a passport or enhanced driver’s license to reenter the U.S nowadays.</p>
