Driving friends with a permit

thumper, I like that rule no passengers for 6 months. I am much more nervous about a newly licenced driver than someone who has had a permit driving with a parent. That’s just my take. Not saying which way it should go.

Iglooo, the research and recommendations are for no teenage passengers or no more than one:

Here are the actual state by state graduated license requirements:

We had the no passenger rule for well over six months with our kids, even though our state does not have any rule at all regarding number of passengers other than you can’t exceed the number of seat belts (a law that many are currently trying to change).

Thank you. In our state, kids may get a permit after turning 16. They have to complete 50 hours of driving AND have had the permit 6 months or longer before applying for a “junior” license. The junior license restricts driving with the curfew and others. No more than one teen passenger sounds good to me. It allows some flexibility and is safer than having more teen passengers. A lot may depend on where teens live. If it’s a relatively sparse area with mostly short rides, it can be more permissible. Just my opinion.

@ellemenope Oh well, if that’s the case, I still wasn’t allowed to by my dad, who helped me practice, until the very end. Sorry about that. I felt better that way anyways.

Igloo…I like the no passenger rule also. To be honest, I didn’t WANT my kids to have passengers in the car so I was glad that the state law upheld my point of view:)
