Drones! (It's a Jersey thing)

I’ve become obsessed with reading about these drones on Reddit and Facebook every evening. Very scary. I grew up in New Jersey but live in the South* now. Haven’t seen any here but a childhood friend in central NJ posted on FB earlier this week about seeing some and that was the first person I actually know and trust seeing them. I keep hoping we find out the rest of the story soon.

  • Possibly they’re avoiding the South because every other person here has guns and wouldn’t hesitate to shoot one of them thangs down.

Someone captured a good shot of a drone in their backyard. It all makes sense now!

Funny, it seems to have visited someone on every local page (in three parts of the state!) that I follow!

Near the Chesapeake Bay!

Apparently also a NY thing now. We got a text blast that drones have been spotted in our town.

I wonder how many people have actually gotten a good look at these things. One report I heard said it was merely small private aircraft (which are approximately the size of a car). I am curious how often small aircraft are mistaken for large drones.

Target practice. Skeet shooting.

There have been sightings in MA now as well.

And in CT as well.

My US rep (SE PA) sent an email letter about them, saying none have been identified as a terrorist threat and no federal laws have been broken.

I have a feeling it started as a minor prank and turned into a flashmob of sorts.

Some of these personal drones are quite large. A roofer came out to take photos of our roof for an estimate… the drone he flew was humongous. I highly doubt it was registered with the FAA…

I saw a story on the news where one local couple saw a drone so they sent their own drone up to get close to it so they could see it better.

So then there were two drones.

I wonder how many of these recent sitings are just folks playing around to freak people out or trying to do their own private investigation.

With NJ being the epicenter of all this, I immediately thought of Orson Welles sending the state into a panic with War of the Worlds.

My bet is that this is going to be just people’s personal drones, company drones and small aircraft, and everyone is getting into the excitement by putting their drones up to check things out or be part of the mystery. Everyone and their mother meeting up to fly drones in formation. Not aliens or foreign governments.

Apparently, they are visiting a small rural town by us. I don’t know why as there isn’t much of anything there.

It seems that many people have been looking upward now in a way they hadn’t been a month ago. However this may have started, people currently may be reporting mostly the types of lights and objects that routinely have been in the skies.

I’ve lived here 55 years in the flight path of 3 major airports and 1 regional, it’s definitely not the normal lights in the sky.

To clarify, I hadn’t meant that the skies have been populated with difficult to indentify objects for decades. However, within the last few years there may have been increased aerial activity to which people have become especially sensitive in recent weeks.
