There is no doubt in my mind that some of these mystery drones are from our military or other govt agencies.
And yes, the public wouldn’t necessarily be told that which kind of does equate to things being “hidden” from the public. Your comment called that statement a “Yawnnn”. I’m just saying it’s probably true that the public isn’t being told what is going on with some of these drones. The others I speculate are mostly hobbyists taking advantage of the situation and filling the skies to further stir up the population.
As a caution, the public’s misidentification of aerial phenomena can have serious impacts. It seems that planes mistaken for drones have had lasers directed at them.

Federal Government: Calm down. If it makes you feel better we’ll spend a bunch of money and divert resources to detect the drones. If nothing else, maybe it will quell the hysteria.
