Now that drop-off is over (for most if not all schools), does anyone want to share impressions of surprises at drop off, both positive and negative? What was different than what you expected?
We really enjoyed the experience. Drive thru-registration was super easy, and when we got to the dorm there were a ton of kids and staff on-hand to get things moved into the dorm. Our DS was exceptionally cooperative taking every picture we wanted (ok, that Mom wanted ).
We were a new family, so it was a whole day (and nearly only new students were moving in this day) – after we had the dorm room sorted, it was off to lunch, pick up books, buy swag, explore the campus, etc… we had a brief chapel meeting, and then we said our goodbyes ( we sort of knew by time we got to the chapel meeting that he was ready for mom-and-dad to scoot so he could go see what he could see), and the kids went off to their activities – while we went to new parent orientation, advisory, and a brief reception.
While we never saw our DS after that, we definitely heard all of the kids having what must have been a fantastic time at the ice-breakers.
It was well organized, well staffed, and you can tell they have done this a few times
Our drop off was six years ago, but I’ll never forget that the Head of School (retired this year) spends part of his summer learning something about each kid and matching them to their picture so that he can greet them by name at drop off.
