Dropping a class Spring Semester

I am a second semester senior who has recently finished applying to graduate school.

On my graduate school applications I was asked to list my Spring courses. I submitted that I was going to be taking an elective course, that upon beginning the course, I have found does not have the focus or interest I expected it to have, and therefore I have chosen to drop it.

Will dropping this course, which is not related to my major, affect my graduate applications? I may add that I am not in any danger of not finishing my degree, and I am totally set credit-wise… It is also very possible that I may choose pick up another class that is more inline with both my major and interests.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

I will also not be taking a course I had listed as a prospective class in my graduate applications, but I’m not worried. You are not held to your prospective course list, and my guess is that it does not factor into your admissions decision anyway.

The obvious thing to avoid is to list a bunch of advanced classes because you think it will get you admitted, without ever actually intending to take them.

I would not worry about dropping an elective course at this stage of your career. Your application will stand or fall on your performance in your courses related to your graduate field, your research and your LORs.
