Dropping a Math Class w/ a "W" Cause I Placed Out of It? (Good or Bad?)

I’m taking my Math 80B course, which is one math class shy of being transferable. After the Math 80B class coming Math 100+ which is what the UC’s begin to accept…

Currently at my CCC I’m enrolled in a Math 80B class though for the next month have the option of studying for the CCC’s Math Placement Test and possible placing out of the Math 80B course into a Transferable Math 100+ course.

The catch is, if I pass the Math Placement Exam and I drop the current Math 80B Class (since I wouldn’t need to take it) a W would be in the Fall 09’ part of my transcript…

I’m applying this Fall to the UC’s and figuring this fall semester is the last semester they see full grades am thinking that wouldn’t be too nice.

Words? Suggestions? Thoughts?

All is very welcome.

Thanks!

Try not to get Ws, Ds or Fs. don’t recommend to drop!

1 W is not really going to hurt you.

I just spoke with an admissions counselor and she said not to worry about w’s. GET good grades!

If I were you I would stick with it, if you placed out of it that probably means you already grasp the majority of it, and you have already paid for it. So think of it as an opportunity to review for your next class, and to pad your GPA with an easy A. Although it isn’t UC accepted I believe it still goes towards your cumulative GPA.

Yes, you can’t transfer the class because it is not UC-transferable, but the “A” will be factored in to your cumulative GPA.

But that cumulative GPA isn’t your UC Transferable GPA which is what matters when applying for admissions.

As far as if you should drop your math class and take the next level instead, a single W isn’t going to hurt you so the only two factors is can you do the next math course and if a further 4 month delay between now the next semester starts will hurt you in that class.
