Dropping Honors Chinese second semester senior year

Hello!

My senior year I am taking a total of 8 classes. 6 of which are IB (including ToK and a self study literature of my native language), Honors Chinese II, and Computer programming JAVA…

My grades in all of my classes is very good except Chinese. 1st marking period I had a C- and 2nd marking period it looks like another C- or a C. The shier size of work excepted for that class combined with my IB course load is just beyond my capacity and is a huge source of stress. I already have 4 language credits ( 3 Spanish and 1 Chinese) so meeting the minimum requirement for most colleges should not be an issue.

If I drop Chinese II, would that look bad when applying to top tier colleges? Especially if I have already submitted my application or been accepted to one. Taking the IB diploma itself is already rigorous enough for me.

You would need to inform every school you have applied to that you dropped the class.

Hi,
I think colleges will understand your reason for dropping the class, as you seem to have been struggling and they know this from the C’s you got for your grade. Colleges also see that you are taking 8 classes, which is a heavier load than that of other applicants, so they might go easier on you. Like the previous comment said, you do need to tell the schools that you dropped Chinese, because if you don’t, they might look at it and think “the person we accepted lied about the classes he was taking.”

Good luck with your college apps!!!
