So I started a Masters program at what most would consider to be a good school, but after starting I’ve discovered that this program isn’t for me at all. It’s not going to get me where I need to go, and I’m not happy with a lot of aspects with it.

Now, I haven’t paid tuition for school yet, and I was wondering…what if I drop out and don’t pay? What can they do? Can they try to ruin my credit, or is there a chance they will let me drop out and just leave. I was wondering if you guys have any insight, and what schools do if someone drops out mid-term before having paid tuition. Thanks.

If you have already been in classes, you owe tuition. If you don’t pay, your academic records will be frozen (meaning you can’t get transcripts, meaning you won’t be able to enroll anywhere else) and ultimately the bill will go to a collection agency which will go after you forever. They can put a lien on your credit and make your life miserable.

You need to contact the registrar and see if they have a partial refund policy - but if you have been in classes more than a day or so, you will likely owe the full payment.

Check out the website, this is pretty early, you may be able to drop before the drop date.
