dual/double major

Hello,

I am currently attending a CC, for an apprenticeship. In my apprenticeship, my work requires me to take two classes every semester for three years. The degree they have us working towards is a Applied Process Technologies degree with a specialization in chemicals. However, in order to speed up my advancement through my company, I wanted to pursue a Chemistry degree while I worked towards my APT degree. My school website, JCTC, has no results when you search anything related to Dual Major or Double Major.

A lot of my classes for my APT degree, are the classes I need for my Chemistry degree, or atleast the classes that JCTC suggest taking before you transfer to UofL if you are pursuing a BS in Chemistry. I have read up on several places and some say that the courses do not correspond, so I couldn’t just take one class and have it fulfill both requirements. Is this true?

I can’t actually ask my advisor at JCTC because, well, I don’t have one. I opted to take some classes somewhere else until I got to the classes that I HAD to take at JCTC because of the price. I am currently enrolled somewhere else and won’t be able to transfer until this semester ends.

Ultimately I hope to transfer to UofL and most likely get a bachelor’s in Chemistry.

You would not be doing a double major, if I’m understanding your situation correctly. The APT degree is an associates degree, correct?

If that is the case, you’d work towards your APT associates degree and chemistry prerequisites/requirements, and then graduate with an APT associates degree once you’ve finished those requirements. During your last year of your APT degree, you’d apply to transfer to UofL to complete your bachelor’s in Chemistry, which usually takes two more years to finish.

Yes but I also wanted to get an associates in Chemistry

sorry, I misread what you said. I understand now.

@guineagirl96 sorry it won’t let me edit my posts for some reason, here’s an example of what I am asking.

It says ENGL 111 is a requirement for both the Chem and APT degree, would it satisfy for both, or only one?

Ah, that would be dual degree then. You’d have to ask an advisor whether the same class would count for both, because it varies from school to school. At most schools, though, you can double count classes for dual degrees, so the one class would satisfy both requirements.
