Dual Major advantages?

I go to RPI and plan to apply to grad schools next year. I am wondeirng if it would hurt me to drop my Dual major and use that time to either take some regular easier classes and or some graduate classes that might help me with my research project? I assume that a dual major would be more useful if my only degree was a B.S. But if I am to get a Phd then I dont see too much of a point especially if I plan on concentrating on Aerospace propulsion systems in grad school and my Dual is Aero/Mechanical. Also I worry about the possibility of my GPA dropping if I continue with my Dual major since I will be at full course load for my final 3 semesters. Also I would be able to spend more time on research which is very important in graduate school applications. Also the majority of Aero’s at my school are Dual Aero/Mecl. I appreciate any Advise on the topic.
