They supposedly do have insurance. And the fertility doc was male. They’re self-employed but not poor. They’re somehow in real estate, have income poperties (including some commercial,) and flip houses. Not to mention the tv, books, public appearances and speaking, etc.
Yeah I never thought they were poor and didn’t mean to imply that at all. But they are historically very thrifty and they don’t like to pay full price for something that can be had for cheaper. So with built in midwives and such in the family, it is a lot cheaper for them.
Yeah I’m not so sure I’d be economizing on my HEALTH or that of my children, but that’s just me.
It just seems so odd that all the women are expected to fall in line and use midwives. It does seem to somehow reflect their desire to not get too close to “worldly” things and other males (doctors, nurses, techs, custodians) who might glimpse the womenfolk in something other than a turtleneck and long skirt

Midwives-- real, trained midwives-- ARE conventional medicine. Some practice in hospitals, some in free-standing birth centers, some attend home births. Insurance pays for them. We’re not talking about psychic healers here.
Women with low risk pregnancies sometimes decide to have their babies at home, with trained midwives, to feel more comfortable and relaxed and to avoid some kinds of medicalized treatments that don’t improve birth outcomes.
Just because some Duggar gets a “midwife” certification by sending in boxtops doesn’t mean that real trained midwives aren’t real medical professionals.
What makes us really believe Jana is a slave, that she hates working with babies?
Cardinal Fang - I mean no disrespect to real, actual midwives - one of my relatives an RN and licensed midwife so I am aware that they are not “alternative” in any way. I was referring to the lock-step practice of all of them using these online learning “midwives” and the idea that none of them wanted to go to the hospital. It all sounded so dictated, like they didn’t have choice.
I don’t think I would necessarily accuse her of hating babies; I would just feel a lot better if she had the say-so about what she wants to do. And I don’t think you can necessarily have the say-so if you’ve never been able to experience anything else, to form your own opinions. When was it, about a year or so ago? Jana expressed a desire to go off to a four-year college, and her dad supposedly had a fit. My bet is, she is fearful of her parents’ scorn if she were to go against them, such as going off to college. What’s so sad is, Josh can screw around all he wants and will eventually be welcomed back into the fold, while if Jana did something like go off to college, they would probably never forgive her for being true to herself.
She also probably wouldn’t have the guts to do it. She’s never been empowered to just do her own thing. It would be beyond the realm of possibility.

Really? I thought that, generally speaking, one can only be questioned about the crime he’s being charged with, to avoid prejudicing the jury. (Assuming this is a jury trial.)
^^^This is not a criminal matter. It’s a civil suit. His sexual history will probably be examined.

Did anyone watch the clip above where they showed Anna speaking about it for the first time? She looked dramatically different, like she has lost a lot of weight and aged several years. I can only imagine what it would be like to go through something like that so publicly.
