Duggars in the news.

Lawsuit against Josh Duggar.

Oh, my. I guess we could have expected this.

While the Michelle and Jim Bob claim they got help for their girls and everyone had moved on, this was obviously not the case for the 5th victim.

Again, I really, really wish TLC would pull the show and let the other family members get on with their lives, even if it is a lifestyle I don’t agree with.

If this is true - why file now? Does she want the media attention? Did the media attention of the past few weeks dredge everything up again? Timing seems odd.

I’m a little skeptical of the website. IIRC, it’s written by someone who grew up in “the movement” but has left it. There is a lot of Duggar-bashing, as well as others.

Nevertheless, we’ll see, I guess.

There seem to be several news outlets reporting this. http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2015/07/01/duggar-family-reportedly-facing-civil-suit-from-non-family-victim/

@rockvillemom check out the link that raclut just posted… it actually gives a sensible explanation for why she’d be filing now.

Interesting. This is going to go on for a while.

Wasn’t In Touch the magazine that broke the original story? If so,:

I’d think they’re pretty credible as far as this story goes right now.

Yes - remember when Jessa called out Bauer Media - the owner of In Touch during the Fox interview for owning pornography publications and objectifying women. In Touch is the bane of the Duggars’ existence!

From the interview:

Both sisters agreed that InTouch’s account of their molestation was distorted and filled with lies, and suggested that the editors’ decision to run with the story may have had something to do with the fact that the magazine is owned by the parent company Bauer Media, which also distributes pornographic material through one of their subsidiaries.

“The Duggars have released a video of Jill and Derrick Dillard’s recent send-off as they left their home in the U.S. to serve as foreign missionaries. In the video, the family’s patriarch, Jim Bob, can be seen praying that God’s will and protection be bestowed upon the young couple as they fulfill the Great Commisson to share the Gospel with people throughout the world.”

What is the Great Commission? I’m unfamiliar with that term from my non-denominational Evangelical Christian youth.

@movemetoo

Matthew 28:16-20 (NIV):

16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Oh, sorry, missed Lucie’s comment and x-posted.

Of course I understand about spreading the word and evangelizing, it was the term Great Commission I’d not heard of. Is it used specifically in certain denominations? Does it specifically refer to missions? I’m just curious.

@movemetoo, I’ve heard many references to the Great Commission in various different mainline Christian churches. It generally refers to missions, but the missions don’t have to be international. It is also cited as a rebuttal against certain cloistering and other similar approaches which isolate the believer in inward-only worship.

Thanks @hayden. I’m afraid my childhood church congregations idea of “spread the word” was more on the line of “Tattle on Thy Neighbor”.

The Great Commission is one of the fundamental tenets of Christianity, isn’t it? I’m not sure it’s denomination dependent.

I am so sorry that was your experience. In the zeal to spread the word, I’m afraid many of us Christians often forget the part about dealing with the log in our own eye before addressing the splinter in our neighbor’s.

So who took the video? Is TLC still taping the family’s activities, even if the show isn’t being shown?

Maybe they will start a new web series, and they will have more control over the message. I bet they have learned how to do all of the taping tasks by now. They certainly have the manpower!
