duiki

is there any way to make it display properly in Safari? also, are people still actively adding articles?

Not sure about the Safari side. As for the other part, that’s my plan for part of Fall Break  Anything specifically you want up there?

yes. could you go into a little detail about how to “forward the contents of port 6000 to our local machine address?” The current duiki.com X-Win32 page just says “figure it out.” Only if you have time though, I don’t really NEED to display graphics from a cluster machine, I just wanted to see if I could do it from home.

Tonight I changed Duiki over to the student link skin I developed for the student government website. Now it can display in Safari if you are not logged in, but it will display improperly if you log in.

The best bet would be to choose another skin that is safari-compliant if you really want to edit articles.

to forward a port to a specific computer on a network, you need the IP address of your router. It is usually set to 192.168.1.X where X is 0 or 1. In some cases (Belkin) it could also be 192.168.2.X.

Type that into your browser and it’ll take you to a router configuration page or ask you to sign on.

In the configuration check your router manual for default user and password or enter the ones you’ve set. Then look at your router’s DHCP table for your computer and its IP address. Alternative, use the command prompt (windows) or the corresponding network settings menu in Mac to check your computer’s IP (it’ll start with 192.168.X.X).

After you have your IP, go to the router configuration software’s port forwarding section, it’ll usually be under virtual servers or maybe “access” or something of the sort. Then create a new entry with a name like X-Win and set to TCP and under ports, type 6000. Lastly, type in the IP address (yours) that you would like to forward port 6000 to. Usually, you only need to type in the last set of numbers of the IP.

Save those settings and you are good to go.

Note that if your computer’s IP changes on the network due to disconnecting or renewing of IP, you must change the IP target in the port forwarding on the router again to reflect that IP change.

Hope that wasn’t too confusing.
