So, I just found out that I got into NC State’s College of Engineering. I didn’t even know decisions had been made, I’ve been so focused on Duke. It took one of my friends timidly asking if he shouldn’t talk about it for me to even think about checking.

All I could think about when I saw the acceptance letter was “Well that’s cool, I hope this is a good sign for Duke.”

jeeeeez, why does it seem like a lot of people are saying like they feel like theyre not going to get in? positive thinking people, it goes a long way

positive thinking is not going to get me in anywhere. I don’t anticipate acceptance, but it has nothing to do with purposefully being pessimistic. I’m being realistic.

I can’t speak for everyone, but personally, it’s a lot easier to believe that I won’t get in (especially since my stats fall short of most of the other ed applicants I’ve seen), and that way, when/if I DO get rejected, it won’t sting as much (hopefully.) As shockazulu said, I’m just being realistic. I don’t have nearly the EC’s or test scores of some of the other people on here. I don’t anticipate a ‘congratulations’ letter.
Also, it seems better to believe you won’t get in, and then be like “Oh, okay, I saw this coming”, versus believing that you will, seeing that you’re rejected, and being devastated because you were so sure of yourself.
That’s not to say that I don’t have ANY positive thoughts. I still believe that until 6 pm on Tuesday, there’s still hope. And if, by some quirk of fate, I do get in, then I’ll be pleasantly surprised.

That’s exactly how I feel, too. I figure being rejected/deferred will hurt MUCH less if I wasn’t confident that I’d be accepted. That being said, I want this soooo badly. Haha.

I’ve tried to be objective about this as well but it just has not worked. Well, off to my winter formal! - best distraction ever. But tomorrow will be spent worrying and frantically checking this thread I’m sure…

Same for me! I’ve always wanted to go to Duke. I live about an hour away from Duke, but ALL of my extended family lives in Durham, so a good part of my childhood was spent on that campus.
I won’t begrudge Duke if I don’t get in. Heck, I was raised a blue devil, and whether I go or not, a blue devil I’ll stay.
That doesn’t mean it won’t sting if I don’t get in, though. Hence, my realism/slight pessimism. If I tell myself I won’t get in, maybe I won’t be completely devastated.

I have had so many people at my school tell me I’m a shoe-in, but it’s easy for them to say when they’re not in this position, and they’re not dealing with this anxiety.

Hmm, that’s odd.
But it may just be a computer thing.
I wouldn’t sweat it. Nothing can be done about it anyway.
If we try to over-analyze it, then it could turn into another instance of mass hysteria (like the tab issue.)

No problem, :]
But if, on Tuesday night, you get accepted of referred, I’d call them and resolve the issue soon after. You wouldn’t want their computer to show they have your semester grades, but later have them go back and realize they don’t have them and it be problematic. Or you could just send them in yourself when you get them, and they would probably resolve it themselves.
If you get rejected, the issue won’t matter, but if you’re accepted/deferred, you wouldn’t want there to be unnecessary issues in reference to your admissions checklist/profile. :]

@k10kekail, thanks for that helpful yet upsetting information. I wasn’t really sure about how many MA applicants there were b/c no one from my school applied to Duke ED, and the last person who attended Duke from my high school is my AP Psych teacher now. haha - I was hoping for fewer MA applicants…whatevs
