@ThatGirlCoder
Thank you! I didn’t even know anything about the invite!
@shivaya
Thanks! Economics Right now I’m overjoyed!
@Fuzerabit - Enjoy the moment. Great reason to be happy.
Did they include anything about financial aid? Probably not. Might be coming in the mail.
@shivaya
No just the invite to the BSAI. Hopefully will hear something soon.
Do we have any idea what date decisions are going to be released?? I have heard March 25 but Im not sure if that been confirmed yet…
I’m pretty sure Duke officially stated that all decisions will be released BY March 26…I’m not 100% sure though.
My mom said she called the office today and they said the 24th, also congrats to those to got the BSAI!! I wish I could meet you guys there, but I have a family trip already planned I am still shocked that I got in! I really need to see what aid they offer however. I got into UVA early action and they gave me a HORRIBLE financial aid package…
@tigercreek Really? The 24th?
Yes! @ClassOf2020x But either way its very close:)
@tigercreek Ah awesome! I finally am collecting some more definite dates haha rather than just a multitude of "by April 1st"s. Thanks! Definitely expecting a rejection but oh well
@itsmyusername With all due respect, I think you made a big mistake not doing the optional essay. In reality they expect everyone to do it since it shows they are willing to go the extra mile to get in.
@tigercreek thanks for the info and congratulations!
@tigercreek
Congrats! I can’t go also because of a family trip. Or to Northeastern which is that same weekend and I got in but like you received an awful FA package so hoping to hear good things from Duke!
@ScazyBoy you’re correct that at most colleges an optional essay really isn’t. But at Duke the optional essay is truly just that. If you check the RD (last year) and ED results threads many students were accepted without the optional essay. My son didn’t do it and got in ED. Also see http://admissions.duke.edu/application/instructions in which Duke emphasizes that the optional essay is “truly optional.”
@neonpinklime - Thanks. I was just about to post the same. This is an optional essay (in its truest sense).
Anyone receive a University Scholars notification as of yet?
@ScazyBoy I had basically answered the prompt in my Common App essay already. Anything I could have written would have been contrived and insincere. And like the other commenters said, this specific essay is truly optional.
The last time I called their office, they said University Scholars were already in the process of being released.
Thanks!
The optional essay topic was the same as the Common App essay which is why I didn’t answer either. Also, I had talked to someone in admissions explaining the same and they said this was truly optional and had no bearing on admission decision.
Does anyone else have an account on Parchment and notice anything crazy different this morning? My son has the 7 colleges he’s applying to on there and for months all of them have been under the ‘applying’ section but this morning Duke University was moved over to the ‘Accepted’ one; all others still left in the applying one. Also, for 2 months when the “run simulator” option is clicked he comes up with a 60% change of being admitted into at least 1 of the colleges he’s applied to. This morning, it said 100%, and that 3 colleges were ‘likely’ to accept him. Previously it has always been 0. No information has been changed on his account.
Anyone else use Parchment and notice a difference?
