@nonetaken if only… Health insurance
rejected again…
@Smythe Oh wow! That’s great! I’m glad that it worked very well for you!
@IfnousWHO I mean it’s not really terrible and it’s actually pretty spot on in terms of my FAFSA’s EFC (although it is more than the net price calculator, which is to be expected because that is just a ballpark estimate). It’s not that I’m really disappointed per say with Duke’s Financial Aid (it’s actually really good considering how much it costs to attend a year and also considering I would have to pay more money if I went to the state school I applied to, which is extremely ironic), but once again, it’s not the best offer I’ve received. If I decide to go to Duke, I’ll have to pay an extra $10,000 a year compared to Johns Hopkins. Duke’s Financial Aid was pretty good, but Johns Hopkins’ was fantastic, at least for me.
do they send an email about if you’re accepted/rejection?
@clueless96 I think so.
Still the estimate I got from Columbia (LL) was better than Duke (LL). If I am going to pay close to retail then it must be for HYPS or some special dual program (BSMD).At this point I am leaning towards Columbia due to the more generous FA. Does Duke match FA from Ivys? I known Cornell does match FA from other Ivys, Duke and Stanford and MIT.
@allthingstesla My Duke and Johns Hopkins FA are pretty much the same, not great or even good. In my case state schools are full ride or half the cost of the selective schools. So I must to have a compelling reason to make the expense (HYPSC or special programs)
@smythe @clueless96 - I got the whole ride as well but our finances are not worth much. However, there are too many accepted applicants that may not be able to cough up $40K per year. I read some comments today in local newspapers where Alumni were complaining that there have to be better aid if they plan to get the cream of the crop.
@darcybee - So you are getting a full ride and come from? That’s pretty amazing, congrats!
@Bluebrry - You still have Rice, don’t you?
I have 68k on financial aid, but I’m also a Gates Millennium Finalist so I have some extra cushion. I also have other scholarships that I’ve been chosen for, hopefully everything works out. be optimistic, guys. Wherever you end up, make the best of it.
@nonetaken I’m from Kazakhstan, low-income (less than 10k a year, which is pretty good for living in my country). Thank you!
I got in! Wow wasn’t expecting it at all tbh so I didn’t even submit the CSS bc I didn’t want to waste $16. Is it too late to submit now?
I GOT IN!!! WASN’T EXPECTING THIS AT ALL. my best friend (who applied ED) and i could maybe go to the same school!!
@nonetaken yeah, rice, cornell, and brown are only my hopes. i actually thought i’d get in to at least couple of top 20 schools with sat 2300+, well roundedness, and ecs. i guess not
@darcybee - Way to go. Welcome to Duke!!!
@bluebrry - where are you from? You may be competing with many, many students.
@WannabeVal Its definitely not too late hahaha I did the same exact thing when I applied because I thought it was a waste of money. I applied early decision and I just finished all of the financial aid materials last week
@Bluebrry - Rice is a better bet than the other 2. But, then again the high SAT may do the trick with the Ivys.
@nonetaken yeah comepeting in one of the toughest pools
@bluebrry - China? India?
@Bluebrry - do you have an estimate of how many students apply from your country?
