Does anyone know if a committee letter satisfies the four letters of recommendations required for Duke? Duke is the only one of my schools that requires four (if chosen to interview) and I’ve only asked for three recs.

Committee letter works! I had to have my committee send a hardcopy to Duke, so you might want to alert your committee that you could need a hardcopy of their package later on. Good luck!

It seems that Duke does not participate the letter service at AMCUS. Does this mean that the applicant needs to ask the school committee to send the letter package (all letters are collected by the committee) to Duke via mail?

Thanks.

Hey kristin do you know if its ok that the committee letter is based off of 3 LORs?

yea, committee letter trumps individual letter requirements

Hawk, if Duke invites you to an interview, then they’ll tell you how to get your letters to them. Basically, you’ll have to have your committee send the letters to Duke–but don’t worry about it until you have an interview.

ChemFreak, when I asked about it she said you need 4 letters or a committee letter. Since they accept committee letters, and many committee letters are based off 3 LORs (pretty standard at many schools, I understand), I assume the committee letter based off 3 is sufficient. You might call them for some peace of mind…but as far as I could tell, committee letter works!

Thanks so much Kristin and thanks for the PM about schools I really appreciated it but I’ve been crazy busy with working full time. Argh living on your own is tough.

Thanks, Kristin!!

Wait…duke requires 4 LORS? What are the 4 LORS you’re supposed to get?

From the website:

Letters of recommendation are not required for the screening process. DO NOT SEND your letters of recommendation UNLESS you have received an invitation to interview. Four letters are required; two of your letters should be written by science faculty and two from anyone you choose. For those applicants attending colleges or universities that participate in VirtualEvals or Interfolio, your letters may be sent to Duke through those processes.
