Duke Admissions? Please Help!

I’m really interested in Duke and I think I’m going to plan on EDing there. I’m going to be a sophomore and I want to know what I can do at this age to get involved with Duke. For example, essay contests that Duke has for high school students, programs BUT NOT Duke TIP because I have heard of that numerous times and I hate saying it, but it will be almost impossible for me to go to North Carolina a whole summer because I have research over the summers. Basically, what are some things I can do to demonstrate my devotion for Duke at this age. I’m open to all suggestions EXCEPT for ones that involve going all the way to North Carolina since I live in the North East!!

Duke does not track a student’s “demonstrated interest” in the school at all. You’d be best served to focus on everything else - grades, test scores, EC’s etc. That being said, you’ll have a great chance to really show your interest in Duke when you apply, as Duke’s supplement has a “why Duke” essay. The more you know about the school, and can articulate/differentiate your passion and interest in that essay, the better your chances.
