Duke attempts to achieve a good name in Asia

Duke is a fairly new university compared to its peers. Its going to take a while, but over the years, Duke will achieve a strong standing amongst it peers in Asia. Its admit rate, for instance, is already 14.8% this year as opposed to the standard 22% stamped with it in the past.

Its only a matter of time. :)

Way to prevaricate:

The President of Duke University obviously cannot tell the difference between admittance and enrollment.

This reads to me like it was translated back to english, lots of grammar errors that I am sure are not the exact words of Brodhead.

This does sound like a paraphrase of what Brodhead would say, especially by a chinese speaker. I’d say it’s likely that the interviewer was using shorthand or making notes because Brodhead talks really fast. Then he went back later and filled in the blanks with what he remembered or understood. In this case, I can certainly understand what chinese term he must have been thinking of and how he could have mixed up enrolled and admitted.
