I bet attractive applicants will end up getting more offers…
That is how the society generally works… non attractive people can rely on the way you talk to compensate…
Perhaps one’s appearance may, in some cases, reveal other information that might be of interest to AOs.
Not a big fan of this. With enough scripting and takes, a personality can be faked. Meanwhile, people who aren’t so good on the camera will struggle.
Interestingly, a friend had a consult with Duke’s admissions director years ago, and he said he loves super successful kids from public schools because it shows they can do well despite not having the best of everything at their high school.
Of course, most private schools do not offer the best of everything, and some affluent public schools do.
Reality looking at these elite schools including duke – they admitted students from private schools ~35-40% of the student body with private schools only <10% of total high school graduates…
Of course they admit from private schools, but being from a public school isn’t frowned upon, and actually seeing a kid who is doing really well from one that isn’t well funded seems to be looked upon favorable based on what the admissions director said. That said, the admit rate is tiny, so obviously it’s not a given. Daughter’s class (not well funded public) had at least 6 kids get into Duke last year.
if it is the state of NC, it is certainly understandable. Duke admits a lot from NC. just like Harvard from MA, Princeton from NJ…
How do they know if a public is well-funded or not?
Isn’t it the AOs responsibility to know the area they are responsible for?
