Duke Class of 2022 Discussion Thread

I just checked my IDOC and saw that Duke requested my individual 2016 federal tax return form. I just uploaded it but it says it takes 3-5 days to process, is it bad that i just did it??? Or does it not affect my admission since the fin aid office is separate at Duke? There was no deadline listed but I haven’t checked my IDOC in months

@unknown2022 Yep, that’s it. Seems like we have twin apps and twin responses from Duke- and no LSRW. Sure be interested how this turns out for both of us.

@College4real According to my counselor, no one from my school has been accepted to Duke in the past two years. It’s a very competitive high school, yet doesn’t seem to have a good outlook. Last year an applicant with slightly better stats than me got accepted into Harvard RD, but was waitlisted at Duke RD which shows how unpredictable admissions can be. It’s a bit frustrating knowing the decisions are probably up and just waiting to be released on Thursday. Best of luck!

Wow yeah that’s something. I’ve heard crazy stories too- someone I know got rejected or waitlisted at 5 schools- In fact, everywhere he applied - and then got into Harvard. Harvard sometimes seems to take people everyone else has put on the reject pile. I’ve heard this several times.

Thanks and good luck - I got Vandy coming up in mere moments !

I am so nervous. How important is the ACT?

@aviyoung30 Pretty darn important. Can’t get into Duke without pretty stellar scores

@aviyoung30 Duke really cares about scores.

haha rip to me never got an IDOC request and only have CSS and FAFSA marked complete in financial aid… oh well

@aviyoung30 I feel like most qualified applicants have a 30+ ACT. I think that if you had a “competitive score,” the actual weight of the score will not really matter in the long run. Rather, I think they will focus on your essays, recs, ECs, etc…

But who really knows what they want nowadays.

@ricecooker420. Thanks. I got an average sc0re but I believe the other components to my application were strong. I also am just awful at standardized testing. I get insane standardized test anxiety. But I have taken college courses in high school so I hope they saw I could handle college classes.

Hello everyone-
The decisions are coming out and I’m really nervous! I applied to Duke in RD and sent some recent updates to multiple schools that I applied through email in late Feb. But I got one of them messed up so to Duke I wrote “my strong interest in Cornell.” Now I feel pretty bad and just wonder whether they will really read these additional files and whether it will definitely ruin my chance if they find out… I know someone who wrote “Northwestern” to Rice and still got accepted.

Btw, my intended academic programs are PPE/cultural anthropology - anyone has similar interests?

Thx so much and best of luck!

Anxiously awaiting this final decision tomorrow night (maybe they saved the best for last?). We are NC residents and Duke has always been my daughter’s dream school. She has several great options thus far, including MIT. MIT is a phenomenal school, but I would much rather her be 2 hours away, opposed to 12.5 hours. I know that everyone has some great options and that your decision becomes clear once you have all the pieces.

Duke… you’re my last hope lol

^^^ big facts

Pleaseeeeeee accept me Duke

any portal tricks or whatever?

Duke is my last hope too lol. Had some random decisions thus far. Accepted Villanova, Northeastern and some backups. Waitlisted Harvard, Vanderbilt, NYU Stern, UNC Chapel Hill, and Boston College. Rejected Northwestern, Notre Dame, WashU, UChicago, and UVA. Still waiting on Duke after being deferred ED, UMich after being deferred, and Carnegie Mellon. Please let Duke be the one!

Less than 24 hours left… Good luck to everyone!

I swear I really want to get into Duke but I didn’t get the lsrw invite so I don’t think I got in
