thank you, the withdrawal was gone for some of the deferred students (meant either acceptance or rejection, I think)
Ah ok! Waiting for mine to openā¦.we had the same as youā¦
Son was waitlisted. So sad for him. I went there and he blows me away for his age.
Donāt despair. A lot will shake out as people make decisions.
He got all rejections tonight and two waitlists. Heās not really talking much and itās clear heās so upset. As a mom, nothing worse than when your child is hurting and there is nothing you can do to make it better:(
my daughter also got many rejections in the last two days by schools ranked much lower, the process is strange and not fair, definitely not a reflection of ones ability or qualification.
To all future applicants that will look back at this thread to gleam any type of hints and clues while you wait, please take my advice, DONāT.
All things pointed towards rejection! No IDOC request, only the CSS profile appeared in FA portal with an early February date that never changed.
But four days before decisions, we got an IDOC notification from Duke and that kept hope alive!
Tonight my daughter got into her dream school!
congratulations! what does she plan to study
S24 accepted after being deferred during ED.
A dream come true. He originally was test optional and after much thought he did submit for the RD round - no idea if that even mattered. Very strong essays. Duke has been his #1 for a long time and his LOCI clearly stated that. He also had semester over semester improvement in his grades (IB Diploma).
Although honestly I am not certain any of these things were the magic bullet, but we are celebrating tonight.
Rejected, but I got Berkeley so that softened the blow Congrats to everyone who got in!
When will they announce scholarships?
Not the best news ā¦
From their website:
APPLICATION PROCESS
There is not a separate application process for merit scholarships for incoming first year students, except for the Robertson Scholars Program. Your application to Duke University is the basis on which eligibility for merit scholarships is determined. If you are selected as a finalist for a merit scholarship, you will be notified via email from this office in early May. Finalists will then interview with scholarship selection committees and merit scholarships will be awarded no later than mid June.
Son was accepted after being deferred ED! Top choice and will be committing. I feel for all of the kids who have gone thru this horrid process. He has had some rough months but worth it in the end. He has been cheering for Duke since birth and proud to be a Blue Devil!
Accepted after ED defer, so grateful. This was my top choice all along, so very happy rn.
I am a junior and Duke is my dream school. I plan to ED to Duke next year. I am deciding whether to apply for Biomedical Engineering in Pratt or Biology/ Chemistry in Trinity. Is it easier to get into Trinity versus Pratt? Is Duke trying to maintain a gender balance in Pratt and is there any advantage for girls applying to Pratt?
Thanks for the info. Was thinking to factor that into decision, guess itāll be too late
I was reading an article about this topic yesterday, and current merit students have apparently been expressing a great deal of concern about this new timeline. It really does pose a hardship for students who need merit scholarships to feel comfortable accepting an offer.
Duke is absolutely not an option for me now without merit scholarships. What a ridiculous decision by the university - this will only continue to make it harder for middle class families to attend these elite private institutions.
Not sure I understand what the purpose of merit aid is? Usually, it would be to help recruit for a specific institutional priority (e.g. Putnam math competition). But here, it does not appear to be a factor in the studentās decision to attend given that it is determined well after the student has already committed. At this level of competition, does it really make sense?
