Duke dorm loft info

Aside from what the website/blue book says, what advice for obtaining a loft without getting hosed on price and without violating Duke rules?

there will be loft businesses in evidence during move in.

Duke does not allow lofts that are not by the approved vendors set up on East campus. There is no way to cut costs or corners. Student safety is the reason.

I believe two companies sit there on move in days and take orders. Four years back, our company was seated near the domed building that is the centerpiece of the East Campus.

My son’s loft was built and installed within three days by this company. We took it apart every summer and drove it home…easy to remove it and reassemble in the next room if you are in driving distance from Duke. He used it for three years and gave it to another sophomore after he moved off campus.

Students from far away who lofted either sold them to younger students in May…or took them apart and left them in a heap on grounds for removal. Duke students …and other colleges…usually hold a yard sale fundraiser for getting something positive from all that must be left behind…and is not cost effective to ship. This money is usually sent to charity…I am sketchy on the details though.

you will want a tiny fan for your bed…and another rotating fan in your dorm rooms on East unless you have AC in one or two buildings…

^^another option, frequently used by students who do not live nearby, is to go in with other students to rent a storage unit for the summer. Son’s “stuff” is in such a unit for the third summer right now. Not expensive when the cost is shared 5 ways (the place is packed to the roof) and it certainly simplifies move in and move out.
