Duke ED Class of 2020 Applicants Discussion Thread

“This Fall, 3,455 students applied to Duke early, which represents an 11 percent increase from last year and a record high for the University” to answer everybody’s questions.

I hope you all know it’s not that they accepted less people, the number of applicants simply rose. Which I would assume…hopefully…includes many that were also just unqualified.
Then again I’m just trying to convince myself it’s all okay :))

Good luck to all of you.

My child was in this situation last year & it is stressful these last few hours. We celebrated like crazy on the good news – but remember, in the end, it all works out for the best.

OMG I AM SO ANXIOUS!!!

@golfer1898 Thanks for sharing

That article made me a bit nervous, but the statistics make sense: higher applicant pool, acceptance rate is lower.

don’t freak yourselves out over just numbers guys!!

hopefully we are all included in the 815 acceptances. best of luck to you all!

Hi all
I applied Early too

To give a little hope, let’s say 25% of the ED applications were pie in the sky apps without much hope of ever getting in. Tossing those out, the acceptance rate goes from 23.5% to 31.4%.

Every little bit helps :wink:

@Bigchipper Wow that actually helps.

visiting from Pton thread - you guys made the right call applying early to Duke. everyone rejected deferred from HYPS will be applying to Duke RD - so take a lot of solace thinking about that applicant pool… It’s routine for people with 35ACTs/2300 SATs to get rejected deferred from those schools.

What are you guys referencing to by “9%”? Isn’t the percentage of Asian applicants admitted 158/813 = 19%?

don’t forget to go here tonight and post your results so others can take a peak at what is most useful about College Confidential

@Resonated its 9% of the minorities accepted, not the total? I think? Or I think it’s just referring to the 9% international applicants

“This year, 37 percent of those admitted early were students of color—which ties the Class of 2018 for the record. Guttentag said 66 admitted students are black, 70 are Latino/a, 158 are Asian and five are Native American. Nine percent of admitted students are international.”

Whoever said 9% probably meant 19% if they were Asian, or perhaps they were international, which is 9%.

Wish I am one of those 158 asians :-*

Alright people I don’t know at all I need an opinion: I’ll be at a jazz band concert when decisions come out. I’ll have time to sneak away right before my performance and check like as soon as they come out… But then no matter the outcome I have to perform and be around people. Should I check it then or wait until I get home from the concert- about an hour and a half after decisions are posted? Thanks!!!

Wait. Either way it will make it hard to perform!!

I think you will end up checking it before the concert…

You should wait, although I know I wouldn’t be able to!
