The stripper who accused three Duke lacross players of rape in the now famous Duke University lacrosse player case, has been ordered to appear today before the special prosecutor North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper.

Rumor has it that the so-named victim is now anxious to put the case behind her, and it is widely speculated that she will decide to drop the charges, and the case will be dismissed.

(03/22/07-- DURHAM) - From anonymous tips phoned into Triangle newsrooms to website postings, the public anticipation of a decision on the Duke Lacrosse case appears to have reached a fever pitch. The Attorney General’s Office has confirmed its investigation would wrap up soon.

Today FOX News is reporting sources close to the case say an announcement to dismiss charges against all three former players will be made Friday. However, Attorney General Roy Cooper’s office is refuting that claim.
“We don’t expect to make an announcement tomorrow,” said Spokeswoman Noelle Talley. “Our review of the case, including reviewing documents and conducting interviews, is continuing.”

I hope it’s very very soon.

I’m wearing my Duke wristband innocent picked up at the lacrosse game Tuesday night. Have to admit I did NOT wear it until after the game since I was rooting for the other side.

I feel terrible for the boys and their families.

"DURHAM, N.C. - The North Carolina attorney general denied reports that the rape case against three former Duke lacrosse players will be dropped, the New York Post said Friday.

Roy Cooper’s office denied a report by Inside Lacrosse Magazine and which was later reported by Fox News, the Post said."

The way I am reading this is that the charges will be dropped … soon … but not today. The denial is really just putting off the announcement – not a complete denial that the charges will be dropped.

Read the link from the Duke Chronicle.

I hope your correct cnp55. These families are long overdue an end to this case.

cnp55 - you could have worn the wristband. Rooting for due process is non-sectarian :-D

It went on right after the game was over. Just a bit of supersition. Told the guy handing them out that except for the 2 hrs of the game, we were all rooting for Duke this year.

Just hope my son’s team gets to play Duke again … on Memorial Day. That’s all I’m asking sportswise … and on the due process side … definitely rooting for the dropped charges side!

You know - why not do it this way: drop the charges asap. Then, continue to investigate as long as they want - spent the next several weeks and months and even years trying to convince the AV to come in for a nice chat over a cup of tea, keep shopping around for matching DNA, take their time reading all of the files at the obvious going rate of one page per day, go ahead and re-interview every last person even slightly involved, etc. Then, if and when they finally find some actual evidence, then, indict someone.

I haven’t posted here in a while, but thought I would return to check things out. I am on campus at Duke this weekend visiting D. On Thursday when I was heading down, I thought that the announcement was really going to happen Friday, and was just ecstatic at the thought of actually being on campus at the time. There was already an early buzz about major campus celebration. What a disappointment!

In my opinion, it’s just more political maneuvering by Cooper. He doesn’t want the announcement pre-scooped by the press, and he is angry as hell that there is a leak somewhere (Precioius isn’t cooperating… that was the first leaked story). I think it’s clear the decision to drop all charges has already been made for some time. The rest is just facetime so they can say how carefully they investigated all angles. That whole fiasco last week where the press was told that they were coming to the house and they took pictures of the investigators “measuring” … that’s a joke. It was a picture campaign, plain and simple. You don’t pre-invite the press to “cover” the investigation of a crime scene. The sad thing is that Cooper and his boys think… well, it’s gone on a year, what’s the big deal… a few more days or weeks… the most important thing for him is to cover his political bases. Well, the family suffers for every additional day this travesty goes on.
I am hoping they come to their senses and end this next week.

Now a quick lacrosse note. cnp55… Congrats to you and your son on a great win Tuesday! I am a Cornell alum, lacrosse fan since 1973, daughter a sophomore at Duke. I had the privilege last year to get to know several of the Duke lacrosse players, and of course am rooting for them to do well this year. I was happy to see Cornell get the #1 ranking (first time since 1978), and thought I’d have no problem rooting for my alma mater to win, but I have to admit when Matt’s shot hit the post with 38 seconds and bounced off, there was a moment of disappointment. I guess I’ll figure it out before Memorial Day… would love to see a rematch in the finals in Baltimore.
I’ve already got my tickets.
Go BLUE DEVILS (at Georgetown today)
GO BIG RED (should be an easy win at Yale)

Thanks for the kind words RDS … i was hoping they’d drop the charges while we were in durham also. We brought wristbands home for the Duke lacrosse alumns in our home town, and i will wear mine today to the yale game.

Proudly wearing mine to the Duke game at Georgetown today! Hoping for a W and that these political shenanigans in NC are over in the next few days–I agree with rds248~they are looking for the best possible situation for those who have to face elections in the next year. This has been a nightmare for these families for much too long.

We’ll be at Duke next weekend for S1’s birthday–hoping that there is something else to celebrate while we’re there!!

Just got back from the Duke-Georgetown game!! :)
Duke came from behind to win 6-4 (3-1 G’town at the half). The stands were overflowing, and I think more Duke fans than G’town fans!! Wonderful crowd, no protesters of any type. The weather was damp and chilly, but the enthusiasm of the crowd wasn’t dampened. A great win!!

I am sad to report that J. Kirk Osborn, attorney for Reade Seligmann, has [died of an apparent heart attack over the weekend](http://www.newsobserver.com/1185/story/557421.html). KC Johnson has a [statement from the Seligmann](Durham-in-Wonderland: Kirk Osborn) family on his web site.

What very, very sad news. How disappointing…

It is so sad that he will not be there when the charges against the players are dropped–but he will be there in spirit! One of the lasting images of this case for me will be Mr. Osborn walking with Reade into a courtroom with people shouting terrible things at Reade. Osborn stood up to the despicable DA Nifong in that courtroom, and all Nifong could do was smirk. Osborn handled this case with dignity and hard work to right the injustice that has been done. My prayers are with his wife and family.

<a href=“Duke Lacrosse Suspect Arrives in North Carolina”>Duke Lacrosse Suspect Arrives in North Carolina;

The boys and their families are arriving in Durham in anticipation of a development in their case. National news media is converging. Speculation is that TOMORROW the charges will be dropped.

Fingers crossed…

Lots of prayers going that tomorrow will be the day they drop ALL charges against these young men. :):)
