Duke LAX case discussion continued.....;)

<a href=“Bloomberg - Are you a robot?”>Bloomberg - Are you a robot?;

Duke applications down this year.

Sticker - I can spin that article though. “Duke’s change in admissions from the previous year was nearly 8% ahead of Ivy-League powerhouse Yale. Both were coming off record years; Duke saw its second highest number of applications ever.”

Doesn’t that sound better?

A shoddy defense by Mr. Smith. As ag54 points out, our system of justice presumes innocence. That innocence is not dependent upon hearing all of the evidence, or any of the evidence. Besides, how could Mr. Smith know what these women did or didn’t know? Yet he finds them guilty of ignorance without such knowledge. It is quite another thing to make a pronouncement of guilt without hearing all of the evidence, which is what Mr. Smith did and now lamely defends.

Why is it so hard for people to apologize?

Mad props to Dr. G!

Absolutely! If you have a few minutes, you might want to pass on your numbers to Bloomberg.

Well, Yale applications are presumably down because of the successful demonization of our President by the Democrats.

Much like Duke, perhaps.

Clearly it is more than statistics that these 2 schools have a decrease in a year when the vast majority of elite schools have increases.

Another dead-ender mans the barricades and raises the partisan flag to defend the mission not-accomplished.

I have no idea what beprepn’s post means.

Yale is a very liberal institution. What would politics have to do at all with the decrease in applications seen at Yale this year ?

Personally, I blame Canada.

OK - not really…

Final Thoughts About My Tenure and The Times’s Future: By BYRON CALAME

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/06/opinion/06pubed.html</a></p>

In this article Mr Calame reveals what, I believe, motivated the one sided support of the Accuser and Nifong in the NY Times’ reporting.

Too bad he doesn’t have the integrity to admit that this is what the NY Times did in this case.

From his article, published April 22, 2007, reviewing the NY Times coverage of the Duke case he claims:

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/22/opinion/22pubed.html?ex=1178596800&en=5e754c53d851fe1b&ei=5070</a></p>

What articles was he reading?

I woldn’t make my bird poop on the NYT and even a dead fish deserves a better coffin. I think Calame’s article reflects the Times drop in circulation and influence more than heartfelt contrition about the obfuscations the Times publishes. Good riddance to bad rubish.

Don’t expect many on CC to share the above opinion.

Blame Canada
Sheila: With all their hockey hullabaloo
Liane: And that b**ch Anne Murray too
Everyone: Blame Canada
Shame on Canada

Duke got the #1 seed for the NCAA Lacrosse Tournament!! First game will be against #16 seed Providence at noon on Saturday, May12 at Duke! Go Blue Devils!! :)

richs,

I think Mr. Calame, lacking in integrity that he is, left himself an escape clause by saying, “Journalists who take too seriously…” This leaves intact the old adage he is seemingly trying to minimize. He doesn’t believe that the NYT’s viewpoint is responsible for lapses in judgment, even though it makes NYT reporting more susceptible to lapses in judgment by having a built-in bias towrd the underdog and against the overdog. The NYT will continue to show such lapses in judgment because they really haven’t addressed the problem. As further proof, Mr. Calame is quite reluctant to afflict the ever-comfortable NYT.

National Day of Truthtelling in Durham. Words can’t describe this performance:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=TVD2Fdc_OzA</a></p>

Sticker - I really tried to take that seriously. I enjoy (watching) modern dance and many times, the combination of it and another medium - music or words - can be really powerful stuff.

That being said, the moment the speaker said “when our stomachs are full, we fear indigestion” I could no longer keep from thinking What. The Heck. Is That.

^^THANKS, SS!!!

OMG, I’m laughing so hard I’m CRYING!!! Simply priceless!!!    :D

Why?  :D

I’m with you, DukeEgr. Put some talented Pilobolus or Alvin Ailey dancers on a stage & I’m in heaven. This dancer/poet team (using the terms loosely) was, ummm, well, a bit short of the mark. I kept expecting Will Ferrell to grab the microphone. Or Tobias Funke.

Berurah, I was crying, too!

HELL, I was waiting for anyone to grab the microphone in service of the general public, but then, hey, wouldn’t want to create yet more “victims.” ;)

stickershock-
How do you FIND that stuff??!!?? What a hoot!
