So I recently got accepted to the MEng program for Materials Science and Engineering. I am little hesitant on accepting because the tuition is really expensive and the program counts as a “professional school”. So I’m looking at some expensive loans with high-ish interest rates. I have been offered a $10k fellowship, which helps, but that only covers less than a sixth of the cost of the entire program.
How do you Duke students feel about your school? I know Pratt is a great engineering program but the materials department is tiny. Should that worry me in regards to employment prospects? I can choose the University of Florida instead, it has a top ten materials engineering program and the tuition is less than half of Duke’s. But it still doesn’t have that “Duke” brand, you know?
I guess I’m just looking for any advice or insights you guys might have. I’m leaning toward UF because I don’t know if I can justify the tuition at Duke. I guess I’m just here looking for someone to sway me because it’s hard to turn down such a good school.
Thanks in advance!
