I got into both programs and with funding they’re the same cost.

I’m really conflicted as to what to do. Does anyone have any insight?

I am currently a Duke student, and I have spent time at Dartmouth. Both schools are great. My vote is for Duke. There is litterally nothing to do in Hanover and the surrounding areas. Durham is a city that is relatively close to other cities, but you can still get the outdoors stuff you get in Hanover. It is also cheaper to live here than in Hanover. You can live outside of Hanover for a reasonable price, but it is too expensive to live in the town itself. Durham is really cheap. Dartmouth/Hanover is a nice place, but I could not live there again for the reasons discussed above.

Good luck with your decision.

Duke

at least they have a respectable basketball program
and stuff to do in nearby cities

I had considered Dartmouth carefully for grad school before i applied and my thoughts were that Hanover was small, geographically isolated and relatively expensive. I ended up at Duke because it offers access to rural small town areas as well as a modestly sized city. All at a cost of living that is more in line with the south than most other east coast locales (at least ones with excellent universities).
