How much free time do Pratt engineers get? What is the workload like, and how often do Duke engineers go out and have fun/socialize or go to parties?

It varies greatly depending on how efficient you work and your courseload. Some engineers go out and party constantly and still do well in classes (I’m not sure how they do it…). Pratt definitely is a larger time commitment than Trinity, but it still offers a balanced lifestyle and most engineering students are not hermits and socialize plenty - probably just not as much as their Trinity counterparts.

But being in Pratt won’t pigeonhole you into a certain social life - some join the Greek system and party constantly, some go out on the weekends only, and some rarely go out and just hang out with friends in more laid back environments. It’s really whatever you want to do and you can’t characterize all engineering students with the same brush. Just have to have good time management skills and prioritize things as you see fit. It’s certainly doable.

Pratt also offers a smaller community within the Duke environment - some students choose to go to E-socials, have light nights working on problem sets with peers, and the like, and others don’t ever hang out with engineers outside the classroom. It’s your choice.

Okay cool, thanks so much.

I visited last year and stayed with a friend of mine who was a freshman in trinity. His friend group was a nice mix of trinity students and pratt students as was his pledge class. Obviously this was based on one visit and one group of friends but during the admissions meeting the representative made a point to mention that there is not a substantial social divide between the two schools.

Like the posters said above, it all depends on you: how efficient you are, whether you are good with time management, what your priorities are, how lucky you are at arranging just the right schedule, what major/courses you choose, whether you are satisfied with a B or if you are a gunner, whether you are premed, etc.

Duke engineers generally go out as often or not often as engineers of any other American college campus
