Duke Pre_med

does duke screen pre-med Applicants

i think im the only one answering ur posts, lol :)

Anyways, there isnt a screening process that Im aware of - if ur premed, ur premed, its not really a major or anything declared, just a track of 10 intro science/math/english classes that you take which is required by all med schools. 2 courses general chem, 2 courses organic chem, 2 courses english, 2 courses calculus (required for physics), 2 courses general physics. Some med schools also require a course in biochem and maybe others so u need to fulfill those reqs as well. The courses themselves, particularly harder ones like organic chm are pretty much “screening” courses - or “weed-out” courses. Most ppl who cant handle those courses consider going into some other field than medicine. I beleive the statistic for DUke is something like: 25% of the entering class say they are premed, while after all taking these classes, particularly orgo, 7-8% remain premed. So as u can see, the classes themselves are pretty much the screening process ur referring to.

its cool, i think im going to stop using this site in like two days. I mean to be honest this a really effective way to get all my questions answered.

thanks
