Good ECs

@hebegebe

Yes, because your son definitely put the same amount of effort into each application and all these schools are looking for exactly the same thing at exactly the same time.

Also, your sample size of ONE is definitely large enough to draw that conclusion.

Just FYI, Duke is more selective than Penn so not sure what you’re driving at there.

Congratulations to your talented son. Enjoy his success instead of being so sullen.

One question for accepted candidates:
Did you see any link that provides details of admission, financial aid package etc.
There was a financial aid webex session today and it looks like that information was already available for a number of accepted candidates.

I could not find any and sent an email to finaid. Haven’t received a response yet

Congrats to everyone that got in to Duke! Daughter got admitted and will not be attending. Good luck to those on the waitlist…

@freedom2020 Son had a link to his financial aid package included in his acceptance letter. It would’ve been hard to miss if it was there.

Congrats to all Duke accepts! I graduated from there MANY years ago (think Mark Alarie, Johnny Dawkins, Jay Bilas, etc.) You will always be proud to share with others that you were part of this exceptional school.

When my DD earned a 35 on her ACT to complement her high GPA, I thought with her legacy background (myself and three of her grandparents!) she would get accepted, for sure. Through this year of school searching, however, I became very aware of the remarkable achievements of her cohort and realized that acceptance was a long shot. As the alumni advocate said, there are over 15,000 applicants that meet Duke’s standards every year. Wow.

Luckily, DD’s rejection was not a heart-breaker. Throughout the year, Duke moved down from top spot on her list and she would not have attended even if accepted. (We probably wouldn’t have gotten enough financial aid, anyway.) Would have been cool to get accepted, but no sense of failure here.

Long-winded way to just say CONGRATs to you all. I’m glad I went when I did … there’s no way I would be able to keep up with you!

Congratulations to class of 2024!

This is pretty surreal. It’s kinda embarrassing, but I wasn’t even considering applying to Duke until a friend asked me about it. I’m majoring in Computer Engineering, so I’m really unsure as to whether Duke or NC State is the right call. Miraculously, w/ Duke’s offer they both cost around the same for me yearly.

@stllnss

Current Duke student! Feel free to DM me if you have any questions. I can put you in contact with brilliant computer science majors.

Thanks to CC for providing this platform.

@stllnss It’s literally a no brainer if they cost the same. Go to Duke. Departmental rankings matter very little at the undergraduate level. Pick the better school.

@Amamaof5, thank you.
Really appreciate the update.
Sent email to finaid and waiting for response.

Daughter accepted and will attend as it was her top choice.

I didnt think she would be accepted because no hooks, but maybe her research was a hook, and her highschool college counseling support was tremendous.
