Duke RD Class of 2024

@GK my school finalized my 1st semester grades on Thursday, so I don’t think they sent it out yet. My checklist has two X’s, one for mid-year and one for final. I’m confused as to why they want it, but I’m not reading too much into it.

Does anyone know the exact date of when we should expect to hear back? Or can anyone make an educated guess off of recent history?

I think Duke almost always releases decisions on ivy day (March 26 this year) but I may be wrong

Here’s part of the email I received with the portal:
"Your 2019-2020 Regular Decision application to Duke University has been received. We’re delighted you applied and look forward to reviewing your application.

WHAT’S NEXT
Between now and the April 1 admissions decision announcement date"

I’m pretty sure that means released on April 1

My DS submitted his application on January 1. Does it mean he will not receive an interview request?

JKMSNJ, I believe the “priority” deadline was Dec 20th, but honestly it depends on how many alums are in your area compared to how many apply in your area. See the website for details, but he can send an extra LOR if he is not offered an interview.

@2Devils thanks for the reply. We live close to a big city but don’t know how many alums are in my area. Based on previous data, the students from our HS who applied to Duke are few. So…

I’m almost positive my daughter who applied ED had final transcript on her portal with the red x last fall. It disappeared when it went to review and then decision. I just assumed they wanted to make sure you aware that a final transcript is required.

@JKMSNJ my daughter is in the same boat. Wasn’t aware of the priority deadline for interviews and submitted hers on Jan 1. No interview. A bummer when we realized it later. And we live in a large city, too.

With regard to the Red X by the final transcript, I have had that since I submitted my application.

@JKMSNJ and @OH2020MOM , my S20 submitted in early November and hasn’t received an interview request. His school was slow with transcripts sending the third week of January (to many places he applied RD), so I don’t know if this influenced the scheduling. He did receive interview requests from other selective schools before they received official transcripts.

@ridingthewave transcript receipt shouldn’t be a factor. Same for my daughter regarding other schools and interviews. I think at this point she is just going to submit an additional letter of recommendation.

My son submitted on January 1st, and was emailed for an interview last week and the interviewer told him that it needed to be complete by 2/14. He was totally surprised to get an interview since he did not submit by 12/20. I think it just depends on the alumni in your area.

For those who didn’t get an interview, I wouldn’t worry too much. I don’t think the interview holds much at all. Maybe if the applicant was described as top (or bottom) one percent, I doubt it catches an eye. My daughter got an interview. Alum arrived late and sick … pretty unsatisfying experience. But I don’t think it matters a whole lot.

@soccergirl2020 “Does this mean I could get admitted and not get fin aid?”
I’m sorry, but this is not how it works. Need Aware means that the school considers an application for financial aid as part of the admission decision. Thus, your chances of getting admission are greatly reduced if you apply for financial aid as an International applicant. Duke will not offer admission without any financial aid to an International applicant who has applied for financial aid. Bottom line is, if you could afford the costs, then you were better of not applying for financial aid.

Duke doesn’t detail how the process works. At some schools need is considered during the admission process. At others need is not considered until the applicable budget is exhausted, i.e., need-blind until exhausted, full-pay-only after that.

Is anyone here who didn’t get an interview submitting an additional letter of recommendation?

@OH2020MOM: My D20 did not receive an interview request and we are planning on submitting another recommendation.

Does everyone see a checklist of submitted materials on their portal?

I’m almost certain there was a checklist but when I logged on today , it says my app is currently being evaluated and says students will be notified no later than April 1. No checklist. and I haven’t received any emails about an interview.
Should I be worried?

Checklist is gone for my daughter and she did have an interview.
