D applying to Duke this year. I just read this “Please note that Duke will not accept activity resumes for the 2016 application process. If you have information that you need to share with us that will not be reflected elsewhere in your application, you may add it to the Additional Information section of the application.”
Does this mean Duke doesn’t want to know anout her EC?
It means they don’t want students enclosing 10-page descriptions of their hard work with the Sock Puppets are People club and their $5000 volunteering trip to Ibiza. Some applicants do. There are also athletes who send the admissions office 30-minute showcase tapes, and researchers who expect their reader to wade through a 30-page paper. One admission dean has cited the last two as examples of information they have no use for. More likely than not, Duke doesn’t want the (more common) 1-page or 2-paragraph description of each activity that some students enclose.
The Common App will give students space to list 10 extracurricular activities, and if there’s one that really needs more detail, Duke is encouraging your daughter to use the “Additional information” section. If that doesn’t leave enough space, she’s probably giving the university some irrelevant info.
