Duke Slavic and Eurasian Studies

How is this major at Duke? I want comments from students or at least people who know students who (have) major(ed) in this. I checked the courses, and half of them are either languages or boring things… I’m interested in politics, and the Balkans. Is this the right major for me?

You may be more interested in a straight up political science major or international comparative studies with maybe a minor/certificate in Slavic/Eurasian studies if offered. But I don’t have much insight to offer in that regard.

In that case there’s nothing that attracts me to Duke, I’d rather do that at Georgetown

Then Duke probably isn’t the best place for you. Good luck.

LOL Georgetown

There are at least three different majors within Duke that will contain courses pertaining to Eurasian Politics and the Balkans: Political Science, Public Policy Studies, and International Comparative Studies. Duke is extremely flexible with regards to curricular obligations so you can conceivably choose to major in one of these subjects, minor in another, and still take substantial coursework in another that pertains to your topic of interest.

If all else fails, you can actually create your own major at Duke called Program II to study Slavic/Eurasian politics if you can justify why a PPS or a PoliSci major can’t fulfill your academic interests.

I’m not sure why Georgetown would be a better fit but if it is, then good luck there. Its a wonderful school.
