Duke Transfer Fall 2024- Chance me

Hey guys, let’s use this thread as discussion for Duke Fall 2024 transfer admissions. First matter of discussion, chance me if you can. I am a freshman at Rhodes College majoring in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology on the premed track hoping to transfer to another school. I applied to Duke, Vandy, Northwestern, Rice, Penn, Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Hopkins, Emory, and I have already gotten into UNC and Tulane.

Stats:
1570 on SAT- 800 math, 770 English
35.25 composite ACT- 35 science, English, reading and 36 math.
3.98 College freshman GPA
Doubled up on science first semester and tripled up including orgo this semester
Finished with All As midterm report this semester

Area of study:
Applying as Biochem Major focusing on Immunology and talked about why in essays

Applying as Classics minor in which I heaviity participated in in high school and I related this to medicine in my essays

Also want to study charity entrepreneurship and related it to the health non profit i started this year

Premed hoping to apply to MD/PhD programs

ECS:
Started Health-related non profit last semester which international aims
Research at Top Celiac Disease Lab in world (I have celiac Disease and brought it up in my essays)
Volunteer at St Jude (top children’s hospital in world)
Week of Shadowing at Vandy Celiac Disease Clinic
one of two undergraduates on National Pakistani APPNA Youth Board
Published Science Writing Article about a cure to Celiac
Work as a Tutor
Started another Non profit on helping autistic kids get more awareness

All ECS above were done while in my freshman year of college which is what I am still in right now. Not going to list high school ECS, but assume an equal level of intensity and depth. Alot of them are about Classics and LAtin, and science, and leadership.

Finally, put many many hours into my essays and put by far the most effort into the Duke essays. Did the Glimpse video for every college. Also, have been putting extra effort by making sure to email my duke admissions counselor and have talked to her a good amount over email. Please chance me.

Outstanding qualifications academically and with respect to ECs.

Should be helpful to share why you want to transfer out of your current school and why you want to transfer to each specific university.

I do not see any reason that you would be denied an offer of admissions to any of your targeted schools. You are the type of applicant for whom most schools will make a spot for you even if there are no vacancies.

Word of caution: GPA is important when applying to medical schools. It is not safe to assume the same results (near perfect 3.98 GPA) will be achieved at all of your targeted schools due to more intense competition.

I appreciate the response. Yes i think my reasons for transferring were extensive and well discussed in my essays. Rhodes does not offer immunology or classics programs which is what i’m intwrested while these schools do. Additionally, rhodes does not have the community i seek, and i talked about exactly what i mean. i think the reasons were well put but i appreciate the response!

You are a terrific applicant. You check every box. Still, it is difficult to transfer to Duke. Last year, I think they had around 2,000 transfer applicants and accepted around 50.

I appreciate that. Duke is my number one by far, and I put extensive effort into essays and the video and have put forth measures to contact the admissions office and make my name known. I think the acceptance rate is about 5 but apparently a lot of the people that apply are just fillers that apply to apply and don’t completely articulate their reasoning for transferring.

Out of the following, predict acceptance, waitlist, or rejection.

Duke
Vandy
Rice
Northwestern
Emory
Hopkins
Brown
Penn
Columbia
Cornell

I cannnot predict, but I do think that you qualify to be accepted at all targeted transfer schools.

For biochem major, WashUStL would be an excellent school in addition to your ten targeted schools.

Where are you going to school right now? DD applied ED last year to Duke, was deferred and then ultimately rejected. She is test optional, I think 4.3 in HS, 3.8 right now, was accepted to UNC as a transfer for fall as well but not sure if she will leave her current school for UNC. I think you have great chances for most of those schools - I hear that Vanderbilt and Emory are not too bad to transfer to but all of these schools are reaches for everyone so pretty unpredictable.

If you don’t get admitted, it will probably be due to lack of space, not lack of merit. It seems like you want predictions; I’ll take a crack at it. Of the 10 schools you listed that you haven’t gotten a decision from yet, I predict you’ll get into four. I’d imagine your file at the very least would garner strong consideration from all these schools, but a lot of the schools just don’t have a lot of space for transfer students, leading to infinitesimally low acceptance rates. I wish you luck, keep us apprised with your results!
