How were your interviews?
How do you feel about your chances?
Want to brag, and calm your nerves? We won’t judge, I’m sure ;)

Good interview, solid application overall but I keep hearing stories of valedictorians who get rejected… I’m not even in the top-15% at a top-50 HS with a 4.34 weighted despite taking most rigorous schedule. That alone will keep me out.

^No it won’t, class rank definitely matters less at rigorous high schools, and most of them don’t even rank, are you sure yours does? Once you meet a certain academic threshold my interviewer said that academics don’t matter as much because so many of the applicants have similar stats.

Any way, I think my interview went really well and that I have a solid application, but I’m not feeling too confident about my chances.

Yeah, my school does, the counselors are trying to do away with it but that won’t help me anymore. However, counselor did say he put in a short blurb about it and that was without my asking. I just odn’t think my rank meets the threshold…

I know I rant about this too much but seriously, it confuses me so much. I have an unweighted higher than some in the top 10% and I’ve taken in some cases a harder courseload (or at the very least, my counselor marked “most rigorous”).

My interviewer and I talked for so damn long, it went really well. I get what you mean about ranking…I think my rank (1st of 275 students) actually doesn’t matter too much in the large scope of things…which ****es me off, but oh well!

Interview went pretty bad. I was very cold due to nerves. I was really worked up and had a hard time catching my breath. When I was asked a question I would reply with “I believe -long gasp- that…” Looking back, it was silly. I guess that’s just a reminder for everyone else not to let anxiety get the best of you.

My chances? I’m pretty unsure. On some days I’m all “Yeah, I’ve got this”, and on other days I’ll think “Can I just get my rejection letter now?”
Brag? I don’t want to jinx anything! Outside of academics, I think I should have sent in an art supplement. I’m a really good photographer, and I now wonder if that would have boosted my chances. The reason I didn’t send the art form in was because I don’t plan to major in photography, and didn’t want it to seem like I was filling my application with what they might deem “fluff”. I’m a self-taught photograper, though, and the Optional Artistic Material form said that you have to have at least three years’ high school experience in photography, which I don’t.

Haha I was wondering when a thread like this would get started :)

Interview- Right after it I was really unsure because my interview only lasted 35 mins (my guy was in a hurry). A couple weeks later, my counsellor said that the head of interviewers called and said that I received the highest possible score, which is really unusual for my interviewer- pretty happy bout that.

Chances- Honestly I’m in the same boat as Seahawks506… My app is really solid and super wellrounded, and I’m in the top 10% of my class (competitive hs) with the most ridiculous schedule ever. Nevertheless, those horror stories are starting to freak the s*** outta me. I honestly just can’t wait til decisions come out.

Brag?- Hate bragging :)

My interviewer and I had a lot in common (he just graduated from med school and that’s my hopeful path). We’re actually still emailing since im trying to get to shadow him at a big county hospital (parkland memorial for all you texans).

All in all, I hope I get in, as well as all my fellow CCers!

My daughter is waiting too. She thought her interview went really well and her application is solid (like all of you). Top 5%, 4.00 UW, 4.3 weighted in most rigorous curriculum. But I know Duke is very selective and we just hope that she gets the opportunity to attend. I hope all of you get in too! But I know that you will all be successful no matter where you end up. I know it is cliche to say that, but we can only look at the positive if we don’t get the outcome we are hoping for. Good luck to all! :)

@EsotericalApp- Wait was you’re interviewer a David Wu?

Trying really hard not to get too attatched to Duke. Application was probably the worst of all that I expect to submit (it was my first EVER as an international). Interview was OK, not really much of an interview as the interviewer asked me maybe 2 questions whilst the rest was just discussing her experiences at Duke. Hoping and praying that I can see an acceptance but the reality is that its highly highly unlikely given my lack of dedicated ECs and low test scores

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m getting extremely anxious now. I check my email (and this site for some reason) wayy too many times a day just looking for anything from or about Duke. Any thoughts on when we will figure out?

Haha same here goodtimes77…

I think last year’s applicants got an email around Dec 8th telling them that they would be able to check their decisions on the 14th. But I hope we get our decisions earlier than that because I don’t think I can take all this waiting!

ahhh it has to be sooner! I need more time to work on my regular apps lol… and damn, i really wish I had applied to some rolling admission schools so that I’d be in some college already. Idk, after I heard that Duke has 2,700-ish ED applicants, I’ve started to doubt my chances more and more. :/

Do you guys have an idea as to how I should go about telling Duke about my recent accomplishments?

I’m going to have a U of Michigan app waiting to be sent the day I get my decision (Mich is rolling RD). Most of my match schools (UCLA, Berkeley, USC, Michigan) and my safety (U of Washington) will be sent in at or before D-Day, and the rest will be a few matches like NYU, Georgetown, and others I add to my list and reaches like Northwestern, Chicago, and Cornell. How about you guys?

I need ask you guys opinions. Do you think I should send my other applications before the D-day? I will apply NW, U. Chicago, U. Washington in St. , Emory, and some safety schools. All the deadlines are about Janurary 1. Is there any advantage sending the applications out early?

The only reason to send them in earlier would be to meet any scholarship deadlines. For example, some schools applications are due January 1st, but to be considered for all scholarships the application is due by December 1st.

Hey guys, my name’s Michael, and I’m the current President of the Class of 2015 here at Duke. I’m just popping in to wish you guys luck! We’re excited to add to the family here at Duke and hope you’ll be a part of it.

I know you’re all stressed, because I was there a year ago. Just know that, while Duke is awesome, it isn’t the only place where you can be happy. The whole point of this process is to find a place where you could be successful. It’s still up to you to attain that success — and, by the look of it, you guys will have no problem doing that.

If you have any questions about Duke, the admissions process, or life in general (I’ve been told I give good advice), give me a shout! Best of luck!

Go Devils!

I have never ever been so nervous about something…I was really excited when someone posted on a thread saying that we would hear back December 5th, but they actually made a mistake. Will Duke send out an email to let us know when the results will come out?

I think I have a decent chance. I haven’t had an interview yet, because I’m waiting to hear back from Cornell next week before submitting my application to duke
