Hey, I really want to go to Duke university in North carolina. I have a upward trend in my grades. I started from a 3.44 first semester and now I’m at a 4.0 unweighted this semester. My SATs are a 2210 and my resume looks pretty good and I have teachers that’ll write me excellent recommendations. Do you think they’ll overlook that no- so good grades I got freshmen year? Oh…I’m also a brown guy (heard that affects their decision)

If you really want to go, I’d apply ED to get that boost. Freshman year doesn’t matter as much as the later years, it still counts, but if you are doing well since then they will recognize that. You didn’t list enough information for a real chance, but if its your top school and ED application will help you.
