Duke vs USC

I am currently a sophomore at USC majoring in electrical engineering. I applied for transfer admission and was admitted by Duke. But actually in terms of my major USC is better than Duke (15 vs 34 according to the US Rankings). I am inclined to go to Duke, but I am not sure about the job market if I graduate from Pratt. No doubt Duke easily beats USC overall, but major is still pretty important. So I am still not 100% sure about it.

For undergrad, it’s really more the school than the major (IMHO). Pratt is very highly regarded and is only under-ranked because of its size (the number of faculty impact the total volume of research produced). If you look at faculty productivity on a per capita basis, I’m sure you’ll find that Pratt performs far better than the rankings indicate. Good luck with your decision.

I agree with curvyteen. Pratt ranks lower artificially simply due to the fact that it only offers four majors (actually five as of next year). The rankings include “reputation” which means that schools, such as Duke, that do not have as many faculty and alumni are at a disadvantage.
