Dukengage

Is it hard to sign up Dukengage?

Easy. (10char)

It’s really really easy to apply. Getting in is the problem. It started out as this tiny initiative where most people got in. And now it’s this huge thing on campus that pretty nearly everyone wants to do at some point in their four years. And that makes for really small acceptance rates.

^That being said, you’ll most likely get to do it once over your four years.

Do they accept people based on grades and essays?

I did DukeEngage last summer in Central America.
It was absolutely AMAZING in terms of the memories I created, the lessons I learned and the lifelong friends that I made.

Since I’m a student on financial aid, there was probably no way I could have had such an experience without DukeEngage. I’d encourage everyone to apply.

As for the application process, I remember there being some short answer and essay questions. The whole application took me about an hour, I think (I submitted it a few minutes before the deadline, mostly on an impulse). I got into my program, so I’m concluding that grades aren’t that important since mine were abysmal.

Feel free to PM if you have any specific questions about my DukeEngage experience, or the process in general. ^_^

When you choose a program do some research first. This is a link to a guest commentary about DukeEngage by a Duke student - From a DukeEngage Dropout:
