Dumb question

This might be a really stupid question… but can’t denied applicants just apply for the next quarter? And the next one after that?

I didn’t see anything on UW’s website that didn’t allow consecutive applications (correct me if I’m wrong). Why do most transfer after 2 years from Comm Colleges then?

I’m not sure about the answer to your question, but I can think of some reasons why people choose to transfer.

The main reason is because, if they were denied for entrance based on GPA, SAT, etc., why would they reapply with the same stats? If you go to CC for two years, the UW won’t consider your HS GPA at all.

Also, if you go to CC for two years, you can get your AA, which is guaranteed credits toward your major at UW. This means you can satisfy the requirements at a much lower cost.

I don’t think people choose to transfer simply because they were denied, either. I think some people who didn’t apply, as well as people who were accepted, choose to attend CC first for the financial benefits.

Hm… then I have another question. If an applicant that was previously denied decided to take an off year (work/travel/etc) and then re-apply a year later, would schools still look at HS stats? What if they had a quarter or two?

They will look at your HS stats unless you have 45 college quarter credits (that makes you a sophomore, not a freshman anymore). However, this year off might influence their decision if they see that you did something significant in that year. Or you might improve your test scores during this year.

just taking time off has no bearing on whether your hs grades count or not.

I had 14 years between high school and college and my high school grades would have still counted had I not went to community college and satisifed my cadr [College Academic Distribution Requirements (CADR) | University of Washington](http://admit.washington.edu/Admission/Freshmen/CADR)

Yeah, just apply every quarter and eventually you will get in. Just keep showing an increasing grade trend.
