My daughter would kill me if she knew I was asking this, but the way I look at it, she’s got one shot at applying to schools…

Along with her great GPA, ACT score, ECs etc, she’s been working almost 20 hours per week during the school year at a well known national retail chain. Twice over the past year she’s been named “Employee of the Month.” Would it be just ridculous to include that in her apps?

It might not be as important as AIME qualifier or Editor of the Newspaper but she’s got two things going for her: she HAS a job unlike many upper middle class/middle class applicants and she’s good at her job. Being recognized along with or over adults/her peers, is a good thing.

It’s not the most important thing to put on her application, but if there’s room, definitely include it.

Also tell her to look for scholarships through the company. Most big chains will have some sort of scholarship thing and being employee of the month twice can’t hurt.
