Dumb Questions People Asked You This Week

I had a friend who had twin boys–they looked very different (one was very fair and one was much darker). She was frequently asked if they had different fathers! She finally started saying, “No, different moms.”

While pushing my newborn baby around the grocery store one day, a woman looked at my baby’s thick curly hair and said, “Oh my gosh, look at that hair! Is it a wig?”

“Yes, I bought a wig for my newborn baby because God knows no one has ever seen a bald newborn before.”

Seriously?!?!

Second prize:

I called a gymnastics place for directions: “Are you located north or south of Elm street?”

Receptionist: “That depends-which direction are you coming from?”

My hairdresser’s favorite stupid question story (and he has been asked this numerous times):

He has a twin sister. People will ask him, “are y’all identical twins?”

Not to mention that she didn’t know that AA has an extensive international service?!

I used to work on a cruise ship. We had a sign over the purser’s desk that said TONIGHT’S MOVIE, with the movie title and showtime underneath. People invariably came up and looked at the sign and asked “Is that tonight’s movie?”.

Another common question was “What time is the midnight buffet?”

Oh yea, “what time is midnite mass?”

[Pope Benedict to Celebrate Midnight Mass for the Millions of Faithful Around the World | Alternative](Pope Benedict to Celebrate Midnight Mass for the Millions of Faithful Around the World | Alternative | Before It's News)

People ask because midnight doesn’t always mean midnight. And doors/sitting could open an hour earlier so by the time you arrive there is no more parking or seats available.

Lol, HI… to be honest, I don’t think any church’s midnight mass around me are technically at midnight.

I have a small petting zoo/farm and with at a country store. The best questions:

-which chicken is the turkey?

-them: where are Idaho potatoes from?
Us: Idaho
Them: do you think I’m stupid or something?

One of my brother’s former girlfriends once said to me:

“You’re from New England? I’ve always wondered - what’s the capital of New England?”

I worked a couple of summers in at the Yorktown battlefield. We showed a movie about the surrender of the British army to George Washington which was labeled on the bulletin board as the Surrender film. Every so often, someone would try to surrender their camera at the main desk. These Revolutionary battlefields are apparently highly classified.

Person: “When does Cinco de Mayo come this year?”
Me ( with a straight face)
“I believe it comes on May 5th every year.”

D2, who is actually quite bright, occasionally says things which astound me. On the way back from her spring break beach trip, DH arranged for her to call us when they were in our vicinity so we could pick her up and bring her home for a few days. She called DH and said, “We are almost to Dallas on Hwy. 80. Can you meet us at Frontage Road?”

OMG. :D

^^^ I did once arrange to meet someone at Broadway and 42nd Street in Manhattan. My mother was appalled – about six different major roads converge right there. Amazingly enough, I met my friend with no difficulty at all.

^^^LOL, all’s well that ends well. :D

I met a good friend & her family in DC–twice. We just said, “Hey, we’ll be in DC this summer, see you there.” We were shocked to run into them–TWICE!

My sister said that her D’s PhD friend said, “How can you tell what direction the sun sets?”
My sister said, “The sun sets in the west.”
The friend said, “Really? Always? Wow!”
Sister was very concerned about that friend!

Romani, we were in Chicago years ago and asked a hotel employee a directional question as S needed to find the Spanish consulate for a semester abroad visa. We received a long set of explanations directing him to an embassy in a totally different part of Chicago, and became rather concerned. Turned out he was telling us about the Mexican embassy. When we tried to explain the difference, things didn’t go well. The employee could not understand why we couldn’t get a Spanish visa from the Mexican embassy. They speak Spanish there, yes?

Before I met him, DH was watching “King of Kings” with his brother and the brother’s none-too-bright girlfriend. After the betrayal and the trials and beatings, as Jesus is toiling up the hill carrying his cross, the girlfriend couldn’t stand the suspense any longer and asked: “Does he get away?”

I was having a haircut in an Asian country and mentioned to the ‘stylist’ that I had been on holiday in Rome. She said “Oh yes, isn’t that where Jesus lives?”

And here’s another vote for New Mexico as the topic of some of the dumbest questions ever asked . . .

The one my New Mexico-born mother used to hear whenever she mentioned her home state: “Don’t you need a passport to go there?”

But this was many, many decades ago. I am appalled to think, after all these years, that her “immigration” status might still be in question!

My sister in law was expecting her first child. My wife went to JC Penney to buy her a “gift”
She asked the sales agent in the womens dept where she could find nursing bras.
The agent replied she did not know , but that nursing uniforms were available in the catalog.
