So, I was assigned to Duren for my room assignment (which I was really happy about because it was my first choice). I will have one roommate. I am starting dorm shopping, and I am not sure entirely what to bring beyond the list of things they tell you to bring.

I was hoping someone could give me some advice? I really can’t tell how much room I will have from the pictures UT puts online.

I already have everything on the list they put online. Here are some of the things outside of the list that I was considering:
- A Shower Caddie
- Storage Bins
- Dishes
- Some kind of rug (I don’t know what the floor is like)

Also, I already have a printer, and I was thinking of bringing that as well (along with my computer of course).

Basically I am hoping someone could tell me how much room I will have in my Duren Dorm next year, along with any other necessary things to bring?

Thanks!

Each duren room is around 230 sq feet, which is fairly large. There are some rooms that are bigger though.

You will need minimal dishes, as all you have to cook with in your room is a microwave. Bowls mostly, probably. You’ll have your 1500 dine in dollars to use at the dining hall.

The floors are tile, so a rug is probably a good idea.

You’ll be sharing a bathroom with 1 other person, so you won’t need a caddie as you would in a community bath.

You should coordinate with your roommate about big items (like a TV), and anything else that you might want to save room for. Don’t bring all of your clothes either–there’s not enough room. You’ll be able to switch clothes out (for “winter” clothes) mid-semester.

That’s a map of all the residence halls on campus, and you can see the layout of a typical Duren room.
