I have a Sophmore daughter at UP. This forum and the decision thread for class of 2019 was very helpful and kept my sanity while my daughter waited for a decision for class of 2019 from sept til the end of Jan. I have followed last years thread and this years. I have a JR in HS and have been curious of the acceptance stats as he will be applying this fall… I felt I could share my daughters experience to help guide those still waiting to hear and the topics on DUS, summer and Smeal. My daughter was accepted for summer. She loved it!!! She applied DUS because she truly was undecided and was considering different majors. The DUS advisors were good and always made sure the classes she was taking satisfied majors she was considering. She did decide to pursue business and has just received her conditional acceptance to Smeal. It is conditional as she has 1 last class to take (Business Finance )which is not avail typically til 2nd semester soph year due to the other ETM classes that must be taken and she is in the credit window when Smeal requires you to officially apply. The process to apply was simple just a few clicks on lionpath…I want to mention that although she satisfied the requirements of 3.2 gpa overall and 3.2 in ETM it was a lot of work. Some friends in DUS intending on smeal have had to pursue other majors because they fell short of the GPA. The reasons for those students not making Smeal varies… If there are low grades in 1 or 2 classes it prevents GPA needed for a Smeal admittance. PSU UP is a big place and issues come up with roommates, struggling with the courses, social distractions etc etc etc. however those students have found other majors and are doing great. A PSU degree is still highly regarded no matter what the major. I hope sharing her experience with these topics have helped those going through what we did …a loooong wait to receive a summer acceptance into DUS then making it to smeal. Jlhpsu… I still admire your knowledge and support to so many! Wanted to comment on the realities of the hot topics of DUS/ summer etc without clogging up decision thread… Congrats to your son! My son will be a fit for Altoona too in 2018
@jlhpsu i’d like your input…you seem to have so much knowledge…my daughter applied 11/30, she has not heard back. she applied for UP w summer option. she has ACT 25 and weighted gpa 3.30…
@bittingmynails The wait is very tough. I remember that! She is almost at the finish line in at least knowing. What major did she apply to? That will make a big difference. My daughter got into summer 2 years ago with a 3.5 and a 29 ACT. She applied DUS for fall but was denied and admitted for DUS summer. She loved it though and wouldn’t do anything different. The major your daughter applied to will make a big difference in her admission chances
Her major is communications .
