You know I’m going to TJ Maxx, tonight, right?

Santa is putting the Costco enamel dutch oven under the tree for me this year!..now I just have to convince the DH or kids to wrap it for me!

marigold, I think you will be pleased with what Santa will put under the tree. My Dutch (ahem, French) oven was a breeze to clean after I made a wonderful stew in it. The weight of it is an added bonus - I get my arms toned while washing dishes. :)

Oh bummer, the deal that you posted sk8rmom seems to be over. I just checked. :-(

I am currently making Rick Bayless’ amzing potroast right now, and all becuase of this thread. My H would like to extend his thanks to one and all. ;)

My La Crueset large oval pot is my favorite piece of cookware…by far. I seriously choose recipes based on whether or not I can cook them in my cast iron baby.
Best Christmas gift ever from my husband. And still way cheaper than diamonds. I know I will have it till the day I die, then my daughter, and probably her daughter!

I’ve got a cast iron dutch oven and a LeCrueset dutch oven. Love both. I never use the Wagner cast iron pots for any recipe involving tomatoes. By the way, cast iron is easy to clean if seasoned correctly.

I have an oval Le Creuset Dutch oven that is almost 30 y/o and I absolutely love it. In fact it has outlasted the store where I bought it.

But, somewhat curious about the Staub brand featured recently in William Sonoma’s catalog.

Anyone know a good cookbook that focuses on dutch oven cooking (not campfire).?

Both Le Creuset and Staub are supposed to cook equally well. I think the main difference is the weight - Staub is heavier and therefore more difficult to handle, and the dark interior coating, which can make monitoring cooking progress a little more difficult. Cook’s Illustrated placed it second to Le Creuset for those reasons, but there are some who do prefer Staub. The original handle is oven safe up to 500, while there is a replacement knob for Le Creuset that is safe at any temp. Also some people prefer the darker coating because they feel it hides minor discolorations and pitting that occur over time. I think Staub is also slightly less expensive than LC.

I broke down and bought the black, Lodge 7 qt. Dutch oven. I’m going to break it in this weekend!

I have to replace a large 8 qt Dansk enamel dutch oven because after 30 years, the enamel on the bottom is flaking off and have not yet found a suitable replacement. The largest Le Creuset is really heavy and expensive and the 6 qt not big enough when I cook a brisket for the holidays, which is my major dilemma, so I will look at the Lodge 7 qt. I did buy a very nice Martha Stewart 7 qt with a glass top that is not heavy and a good size and really inexpensive in Macy’s but the glass top can’t go in the oven. My Dansk top does fit on the Martha Stewart however. Le Creuset is frequently on sale in so many places. Anyone use the Mario Battali from Crate & Barrel?

Zoosermom, I bought this today too (in blue), but I ordered it online. I also bought the Le Creuset replacement knob that I plan on putting on the Lodge. After you break it in, please tell us what you made in it!

Warning: some All-Clad Dutch ovens have lids made in China. I just made this discovery at Macy’s. If the box does not state “Made in the USA”, check the insert.

I’ve been searching for chicken recipes for my dutch oven and just found this one that looks easy and delicious: [Dutch Oven Rosemary Chicken - The Cooking Husband](http://www.thecookinghusband.com/dutch-oven-rosemary-chicken/) I think I’ll make it tomorrow for dinner and I’ll report back. If anyone else has any chicken recipes they love for the dutch oven, please post them!

^^ In case anyone is interested, I made this recipe tonight and it came out quite good. The only change I made was to add fennel along with the mushrooms.

Gouf - the best cookbook is Molly Stevens’ All About Braising. So many wonderful dutch oven recipes - from vegetables to meats.

Thanks! I’ll look it up!
